Today we honor and celebrate retired Captain Shane Wiggins who passed away on St. Patrick’s Day. Shane served 28 years with the Elko Fire Department. The lives he saved, citizens he served, and impact he had on the community will not be forgotten. His legacy of service carries on through his son David, a current firefighter for the Elko Fire Department. Rest in peace, Captain Wiggins.

🎉What a special day celebrating the people who make the City of Elko Fire Department such an incredible organization.

Congratulations to Firefighter Ray Lara on his badge pinning, Taylor Moseley on his promotion to Driver Operator I, and Pastor Jake Eisinger on being installed as our department Chaplain. We were also honored to celebrate the retirement of Stacy Wines, recognizing an outstanding 20 years of service to our community.

Thank you to each of these individuals for your commitment, leadership, and the difference you've made in the lives of those you serve. We wish Stacy the very best in retirement and look forward to seeing the continued impact Ray, Taylor, and Pastor Jake will have on our department.

A special shout-out to Garibaldi's for providing an amazing lunch and helping make this celebration even more memorable. Your generosity and delicious food were greatly appreciated!

Training Burn Notice 6/8/2026

Elko County Fire will be conducting a training burn near the east end of the airport, by the Exit 298 area.

Residents and travelers may see smoke, fire apparatus, and fire personnel on scene during the training.

This is a planned training event and crews will be monitoring conditions throughout the burn.
