We have been contacted by Rural Phone, this company provides service to the Jarbidge area. They will have an outage on August 16, 2023 around Midnight and expected to be down for 1 to 1.5 hours. During this time they will be upgrading their phone switches and callers in this area with their service will be unable to reach 9-1-1. They have sent out notifications to their users, but please if you have their service have a back up plan to reach 9-1-1 during this outage.

Both services have reported that they have resolved the issue.
AT&T and T Mobile have reported issues with their service. They have advised that it should not effect the ability to call 911.

At approximately 0930 hours a Mormon cricket (name withheld until notification of next of kin) attempted to attack our department. While the cricket gave a good fight it ultimately lost its head after being hit with a door and succumbed to it's injuries. No officers were injured in this incident.

AT&T and Frontier have completed the repairs and everything is functioning as it should now.

There is a major outage and 911 lines and administration lines are down. Please call 775-777-6443 or 775-777-6445. The phone carries have been advised and are working on fixing the issue.

AT&T phones are having issues at this time. AT&T is aware and they are working diligently to resolve service.

Lines appear to be back up and functioning.

The phone lines are not working, we are in the process of having them forwarded to our cell phones. If you are having problems getting through please try 775-777-6443 or 775-777-6445. The phone carries have been advised and are working on a solution. Thank you.

Sheriff’s Office receives Joining Forces Grant

Elko, Nevada, December 2022 – The Elko County Sheriff’s Office has received a $26,000 grant from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety, to support the ongoing participation in the Joining Forces traffic safety program.

With these grant funds, the Elko County Sheriff’s Office will be able to “Join Forces” with law enforcement agencies within Elko County and neighboring agencies from October 2022 through September 2023.

Joining Forces is a high visibility, multi-jurisdictional, statewide effort to increase safety and reduce traffic fatalities on Nevada's roads by increasing enforcement and awareness of traffic laws including DUI, distracted driving, seat belts, speeding, and pedestrian safety.

This grant funds approximately 520 deputy hours that are used specifically for traffic safety functions.

The Elko County Sheriff's Office utilizes data from prior year's enforcement efforts, vehicle accident statistics and citizen complaints to implement planned enforcement and awareness activities. Our goal is to reduce the number of traffic fatalities as well as decrease the incidents of impaired driving and speeding in school zones.

The safety of the residents and visitors of Elko County is always the primary goal of the Elko County Sheriff’s Office. This grant enables the Sheriff’s Office to proactively affect the safety of the Elko County residents and visitors.

Carlin Police Department is deeply saddened by the unexpected loss of Don Van Tassel. Don became a member of our department May 1, 2004 and was dedicated to serving the members of our community until his retirement from our department in January 2019. There was rarely a time you could not find Don without his radio, listening to make sure he could be there when help was needed. When he wasn't assisting the officers if you needed help with anything Don was there to lend a hand. Don devoted countless hours to our department. It was an honor to have known him and he will be deeply missed.
