All agencies in Nevada work hard to keep us safe and protect communities.
In this same area (Spring Creek, Lamoille) Elko County Fire Protection District, Nevada Division of Forestry, Spring Creek Association and us U.S. Forest Service-Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Have been doing fuels mitigation for the last few years. These treatments are intended to lessen the effects of a wildland fire on your community.
Welcome to the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI), where urban development meets wilderness. Rising desire for forest-side living has fueled WUI's growth. High wildfire risks, driven by weather, terrain, and vegetation factors, affect these communities. In Elko's Spring Creek HOA, 14,976 acres hold 5,400 homes, open spaces, and more. Bordered by private rangelands, Forest Service, and BLM land, it's an area where shared stewardship can be put into action. The Spring Creek WUI Project brings together the resources and talents of NDF, the USDA Forest Service, The Bureau of Land Management, Elko County Fire Protection District, and the community itself. Together, we work on fuel reduction, community education, and defensible space to increase wildfire resilience and promote the establishment of fire adapted communities. 🔥🌲 "

Lamoille Canyon Road (Forest Service Road 660) on the Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District near , , is closed to motorized vehicles from Thomas Canyon Campground to Road’s End Trailhead due to multiple debris slides that occurred in the canyon today.

The Elko County Clerk's Office wants to make the public aware of a recent scam where individuals receive phone calls informing a person that they have missed jury duty and are being offered a chance to pay the fine associated with missing jury duty over the phone or at the Sheriff's Office. No phone calls are made to inform citizens that they missed jury duty.
The official process if you miss jury duty is as follows:
Those who miss jury duty potentially are sent a letter upon decision of the Judge from the County which is called a Show Cause letter. It notifies the receiver to appear before a Judge at which time a potential fine or fee may be assessed. It is the sole discretion of the Judge whether or not a Show Cause letter is issued or a fine or fee is assessed.
If during the hearing a fine or fee is assessed for missing jury duty, the receiver would directly pay the Elko County Clerk's Office. If you have questions, please contact the Elko County Clerk's Office at 775-753-4600.
Please Remember NO phone calls are made to inform citizens that they missed jury duty.
The Elko County Sheriff's Office has been made aware of the scam.
The Elko County Fire Protection District anticipates closing controlled burning with our State and Federal partners effective July 25th . Currently controlled burning hours are 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. daily. All-natural vegetation burning must be completely extinguished by noon.
Please visit Elko County Fire’s webpage to obtain or update your permit at https://www.elkocountynv.net/.../ecfpd_-_fire.../index.php . Once submitted, your phone number will be your burn permit number. A copy of your permit and the county’s burning regulations will be e-mailed to you upon issuance.
Always notify Dispatch’s non-emergency line BEFORE burning.
Elko County is experiencing extreme heat and the possibility of dry lightning over the next couple of days. These exceptionally high, extended temperatures lead to power outages, health risks, and personal loss in the form of wildfires. Please be extra careful outdoors! Check on your elderly neighbors and keep in mind your pets as well.
Have a plan:
With all the moisture and growth we have had this year, the vegetation is thriving. As we see temperatures rise, fire danger becomes a concern. Have a plan! Talk with family members about a fire escape plan and what to do in the event of an emergency. Be prepared - be safe.
Let the pros handle the fireworks enjoy the shows in Elko, Carlin, Wells, West Wendover, Jackpot and Spring Creek
We have been saying it for the last few days. Keep your fingers safe.

BLM Nevada has issued a statewide fire prevention order aimed at reducing the number of wildfires on public lands. The Fire Prevention Order makes it illegal to use explosive materials (including exploding targets), fireworks or steel component ammunition. The order, which went into effect May 1, states “the following acts are prohibited on all public land areas, roads and trails located within and administered by the BLM Nevada State Office.”
Specific prohibitions include:
• Discharge, use, or allowing use of fireworks or pyrotechnic devices
• Discharge, use or allowing use of incendiary, tracer or steel core ammunition or exploding targets, including binary explosive targets while recreational shooting
The BLM would also like to remind people who plan to shoot on public land to follow these safety tips:
• Refrain from shooting during hot, dry and windy conditions
• Place your targets on dirt or gravel areas clear of vegetation
• Bring a shovel and water to put out fires that may start
For more information on restrictions, visit: https://www.nevadafireinfo.org/restrictions-and-closures
During a wildfire, embers cause most home ignitions. Residents can harden homes minimizing property damage and protecting firefighters. Help reduce putting firefighters and communities at risk by hardening your home to ember intrusion and creating defensible space on private property.
Be prepared for a couple of windy days.
We will be closing open burning during the wind event.
*Update* *Updated time*
A wind advisory is in effect for the region starting Monday at 11 AM and ending Tuesday 11 PM. Southeast winds could reach 25 to 25 mph with gusts as high as 55 mph. These winds could blow around unsecured objects and make travel difficult.
Good morning.
