UPDATE: SCAM CONTINUES TO HIT

The Elko County Planning and Zoning Department has been made aware of a fraudulent invoice sent to a resident requesting payment to the “County.”

Please note that the Elko County Planning and Zoning Department does not issue invoices for services. Although the invoice appeared official and the sender’s email address was similar to a legitimate one, it was not authentic. We encourage all residents to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to this scam.

Be aware of any emails that come from the usa.com domain, which we don't control and can't regulate. Complaints have been filed against them, but the owners of the domain obviously know what is going on.

If you have any questions about a mailing you receive, please contact the Department at 775-738-6816.

Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar urges voters to look for notifications from election officials to cure their signature

CARSON CITY, NV – Nevada Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar is urging voters who used a mail ballot in the June Primary Election to be on the lookout for a message from state and local county election officials to cure the signature on their ballot if there's an issue.

The signature cure deadline is Monday, June 15 at 5pm. Nevada provides voters with the ability to resolve or "cure" issues with a signature on the mail ballot return envelope. For example, if a signature is missing or does not match the signature on file, a voter may correct the issue.

If a voter receives notification that they need to cure their signature, they can go to Cure.NV.gov to complete the signature curing process or contact their local county election official directly. Voters can help election officials by ensuring their contact information is up-to-date and add their phone number and email to their voter registration on VOTE.NV.gov.

“Mail ballots allow Nevadans to vote in a way that works for them, and voters in every corner of our state utilize this option to make their voice heard. Nevada is a battleground state with many very close races in every election – every eligible voter deserves to have their vote counted,” said Secretary Aguilar. “The signature verification is an important security check in the voting process. Signatures change over time or a voter may not have a consistent signature developed. County election officials are working hard to contact voters who have an issue with their ballot, but they need your help! Voters who receive a notification from their election official should contact the county as soon as possible or visit Cure.NV.gov to make their vote count.”

Voters can also check themselves if their ballot needs to be cured:
1. Visit Vivid.NV.gov
2. Scroll down to the “Voter List & Ballot Status Reports”
3. Download the file of their county (and Congressional District, if necessary)
4. Search for their name
5. Find the status of their ballot in the “Ballot Status” column
6. If a ballot needs to be cured, it will be flagged as “Signature Cure Needed” in the Ballot Status column

Unofficial election results will continue to be updated on Results.NV.gov. Election results are unofficial until the canvass is complete, on or before the 10th day following the Primary Election, on June 18 (due to June 19 being a state holiday).

Elko County Fire Protection District is announcing that open burning will close on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, for the 2026 summer fire season until conditions improve and the Fire District reopens burning.

This closure is being implemented due to increasing fire danger, drying fuels, and seasonal wildfire conditions across the region. Even small fires can escape quickly under current and forecasted conditions.

Residents are reminded:
• Open burning closes on June 10, 2026
• Debris pile burning is included in the closure
• Previously issued burn permits are suspended during the closure
• Cooking fires and warming fires should only be used in established fire rings with adequate clearance from grass, brush, structures, and other flammable materials. A warming fire burn permit is required and must be activated using Elko County’s burn permit site https://elkocountynv.firepermits.com/
• Never burn on windy days or during Red Flag conditions

We appreciate the public’s cooperation in helping protect our communities, firefighters, and natural resources.

For questions, please contact the Elko County Fire Protection District at 775-738-9960.
