ELKTON -- SINGERLY FIRE CO. -- In 1962, a group of young Singerly firefighters received certificates for completing the University of Maryland's "Basic Firemen's" Course. Receiving awards on that September evening were Walter Rogers, James Crouse, Walter Morgan, James Robinson, Wayne Sprout, and Leroy H. Scott. Jack Everett was missing, the paper wrote (but Jack appears to be at the right edge of the frame). At a dinner hosted by Singerly, Robert Byrus, fire service director, and Singerly member and instructor John Farrell presented the certificates for successful completion of the 60-hour training program.
