The Announcement of the Frenchtown Lafayette Trail marker unveiling ceremony.

LAFAYETTE250 CELEBRATION
Elkton, Maryland | Wednesday, April 8, 2026 | 2 pm ET

Dear friends,

We are thrilled to announce an upcoming FREE Lafayette event in Elkton, Maryland, to be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 2 pm ET. This event will result in the addition of our 5th Lafayette Trail marker in Maryland.

At approximately 1:30 am on October 7, 1824, General Lafayette was welcomed in Frenchtown, where he boarded the steamboat "United States" for Baltimore. Frenchtown is no more, though a left turn on Augustine Herman Highway would take any driver on Frenchtown Road, and, ultimately, to the location of the historical settlement at the head of the Elk River.

The dedication ceremony for this new marker will take place as part of a Lafayette250 function honoring Lafayette's contributions to American freedom as the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

The Lafayette250 event will start promptly at 2 pm ET on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. If you wish to participate in this patriotic function, please join us at 199 Frenchtown Rd, Elkton, MD 21921

The ceremony is expected to last up to 45 minutes and include remarks from all stakeholders involved in the preparation of this marker, the formal unveiling of the new sign, and photo opportunities for attendees.

We would like to express our appreciation to the Town of Elkton for expressing an interest in preserving the history of Frenchtown. Special thanks go out to Jeanne Minner, director of planning for the Town of Elkton, for her guidance and support throughout the validation process.

This new marker was donated to the Town of Elkton, MD, by The Lafayette Trail, Inc., with funding from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation. Once again, this patriotic function is FREE OF CHARGE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. We hope you will be able to attend! To find out more about this event, please visit lafayette250.org/events or send us an email at the following email address: [email protected].

We look forward to seeing you in Elkton, MD, on Friday, April 8, 2026, at 2 pm ET!

Best regards,

Julien Icher

**Beware of False Wire Transfer Requests**

Wire Transfer requests received via Email, Phone, or Text demanding immediate payment are usually scams, especially if they involve urgent, secret, or last-minute changes to payment instructions. Never pay via wire transfer to unknown recipients or to resolve unexpected account issues.

Key Takeaways to protect Yourself:

⚬ Verify Independently: Call the person or company directly using a known, trusted phone number-not the one in the suspicious message-to confirm the request.

⚬ Beware of Urgency: Scammers often use pressure tactics to force quick, unverified actions.

⚬ Check for Fraud: Be suspicious of last-minute changes to real estate or invoice payment details.

⚬ Report Scams: Contact your Bank immediately and file a complaint with the https://www.ic3.gov/ if you have been targeted.
