Timeline for Hurricane Isaias effects

10/09/2026

A STATE OF EMERGENCY has been declared in preparation for the impacts of Hurricane Isaias. High winds (gusts to 50 mph) and heavy rain (2 to 5 inches possible) are expected with the potential for tornadoes.
The weather should start moving into the area later tonight. Please stay off the roads if you don't have to get out when the weather starts. There is a high probability of downed trees and power lines which can cause a hazardous situation in the dark.
Updates will be provided as they become available. Monitor weather broadcasts on TV, radio, or NOAA weather radio.

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Chattahoochee,
Harris, Heard, Macon, Marion, Meriwether, Muscogee, Pike,
Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor, Troup, Upson, and
Webster Counties.
At 11 AM ET, Hurricane Isaias was located in the southern Gulf with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph and was moving ENE at 10 mph. Isaias is forecast to turn northward on Friday and accelerate in forward speed towards the northern Gulf Coast by late Friday or early Saturday. As the system continues to move inland on Saturday, it could bring widespread impacts to North and Central Georgia including a long duration of gusty winds, heavy rainfall with localized flooding, and tornadoes.
The wind field is expected to expand considerably and may be lopsided towards the east, which means impacts are likely well beyond the forecast cone, particularly east of the hurricane's center. A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for portions of West- Central GA due to this threat, with the potential for wind gusts to 40-50 mph. Hurricane Isaias will also bring widespread rainfall with
bands of heavy rainfall, leading to total amounts of 1 to 3 inches,

From the National Weather Service:

An approaching front and an anomalously moist environment for early October will support heavy rainfall rates and increased chances for localized flash flooding through the weekend. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible beginning tomorrow morning, becoming numerous to widespread in coverage on Sunday.

Heavy Rainfall: A Slight (level 2 out of 4) Risk of excessive rainfall is in effect for all of north and central Georgia on Sunday.
Widespread totals of 1 to 2" of rain are possible Saturday morning through Monday morning, though isolated areas could see 3" or more. Uncertainty remains regarding the location/axis of highest rainfall totals as it will be tied to the progression of the aforementioned front.

TIMING: Afternoon thunderstorms will be possible today and tomorrow, with widespread heavy rain beginning after midnight tomorrow and continuing through the day on Sunday.

IMPACTS: Heavy rainfall could lead to localized flash flooding and temporary street flooding, especially in impervious areas or areas with clogged storm drains.

For those of you that are annoyed by the weather advisories at 2AM that alert you to the end of a warning period please bear with us. I have attempted to change the parameters that are alerted (or not alerted).

We are in the process of changing our system from Code Red to Hyper-Reach. The software is more user friendly and adaptable to our needs. We will publish links to sign up for the new system as soon as we receive them. Thanks for your patience.
