Chem 345 Environmental Chem field trip 5/6/2026.
Led by instructor Sam Lohse, one of our high impact practice labs, Chem 345, teams up with a general chemistry cohort from Big Bend Community College taught by CWU alum Lindsay Groce to collect water samples in Moses Lake in the spring. They then return to their respective labs and the following week do testing on their samples while being connected via zoom so the different cohorts can chat with one another about their findings. Great partnership!

There was another award in the chemistry department at the CWU College of the Sciences Celebration of the Sciences on Thursday, May 7. Our department admin Lisa Stowe was awarded the Force of Nature award. "This award honors an individual—student, alumnus, faculty, staff, or community member—whose extraordinary drive, resilience, and vision have left an undeniable mark on the College of the Sciences and beyond. The recipient is someone whose energy and determination have inspired others and sparked meaningful change." Lisa has been a staff member on campus for 30 years, 26 of those in chemistry and is also a COTS alum. Pictured here with Dion Rivera and distinguished chemistry student Cece LaPlace.
