Message from Mayor Trent regarding the next steps in NY Forward:

Dear Residents and Community Members,

First and foremost, thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm following the announcement that the Village of Ellenville has been selected as a Round 4 NY Forward community.

As we begin this process, I want to provide some clarification about what comes next.

The NY Forward Grant is a focused $4.5 Million Downtown Revitalization and Economic Development grant, encompassing our Canal and Center Street corridor’s.

The projects included in the Village’s NY Forward application are not the projects that have been selected for funding. Those projects were submitted only as examples to demonstrate the Village’s readiness and potential for revitalization, to show funding would not simply sit unused. They helped illustrate the types of investments that could transform our downtown, but they were not approved simply because they appeared in the application.

The NY Forward program now enters a collaborative planning phase during which the community will help determine how the award is ultimately invested.

What happens next?
A planning consultant will be assigned by New York State. The consultant will work with the Village, the Local Planning
Committee, and Empire State Development to develop the NY Forward Strategic Investment Plan.

A Local Planning Committee (LPC) will be formed. This committee will include local and regional stakeholders and community representatives who will help guide the planning process.

Projects will be solicited from throughout the community. Eligible public, private, and nonprofit applicants will have an opportunity to submit projects for consideration.

Projects will be evaluated using NY Forward criteria. The Local Planning Committee, in conjunction with New York State and it’s consultants, will evaluate proposed projects based on factors such as community impact, feasibility, readiness, catalytic effect, and consistency with the community’s vision.

The Strategic Investment Plan will be developed. The committee will recommend a package of projects that best advances Ellenville’s revitalization goals.

New York State will make the final funding decisions. While the Local Planning Committee recommends projects, the State has the final authority to approve which projects receive NY Forward funding and at what funding levels.

Over the coming months, we will share information about upcoming meetings, opportunities for public input, and how to submit project ideas. We look forward to working together to make the most of this incredible opportunity.

Most importantly, thank you to the residents, businesses, and organizations whose commitment to our community made this achievement possible.

Sincerely,
Evan Trent
Mayor - The Village of Ellenville

Message from Mayor Trent:

"I am proud to announce that Ellenville has been selected as a Round 4 NY Forward award recipient, securing $4.5 million in New York State funding to advance transformative downtown revitalization projects and build upon the community's ongoing renaissance. The award was announced today by Governor Kathy Hochul as part of New York State's Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) and NY Forward Program."

"The highly competitive NY Forward Program recognizes smaller communities that have demonstrated a strong vision for economic growth, downtown revitalization, housing, and long-term investment. Ellenville’s application, submitted this past fall, was selected as one of the Mid-Hudson Region's two NY Forward winners, alongside Livingston Manor, while the City of Yonkers received this year's Downtown Revitalization Initiative award."

"This is a transformational day for Ellenville and the Canal - Center Street Corridor. We are honored and grateful to Governor Kathy Hochul, Empire State Development, the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council, and all of our local, county, state, and community partners who believed in our vision for Ellenville's future. This investment is a testament to the incredible momentum our community has built and the hard work of countless residents, businesses, organizations, and volunteers who have helped position Ellenville for this opportunity."

"It is about strengthening our downtown, supporting local businesses, creating opportunities for housing and economic development, enhancing public spaces, and ensuring that Ellenville continues to be a place where families choose to live, entrepreneurs choose to invest, and visitors choose to explore."

The Village will now be working with our Empire State Development partners to begin a comprehensive public planning process to develop a Strategic Investment Plan that will identify transformative projects eligible for NY Forward funding.
