* This dangerous storm will be near... Baltimore, Pikesville, Towson, Randallstown, Owings Mills, Milford Mill, Reisterstown, Lochearn, Mays Chapel, and Timonium around 420 PM EDT. Parkville and Carney around 425 PM EDT. Rosedale around 430 PM EDT.

📍 Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include Henryton, Ruxton, Lutherville, Eudowood, Riderwood, Granite, Brooklandville, Garrison, Mcdonogh, and Loch Raven Village.
📡 At 414 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Randallstown, or 7 miles west of Pikesville, moving east at 40 mph.

📝IMPACT...For those in the direct path of a tornado touchdown, flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Damage to roofs, siding, and windows may occur. Mobile homes may be damaged or destroyed. Tree damage is likely.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

At 6:40 am, we received multiple 911 calls reporting smoke in the area of the Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City. During their investigation, firefighters located fire through the roof of a nearby townhouse in the 2600 block of Legends Way. Due to the extent of the fire, a second alarm was requested. There were no occupants inside of the main fire building at the time of the incident.

Due to the extent of the fire and instability of the structure, crews worked in a defensive operation, putting water onto the fire from the exterior. Firefighters brought the fire under control in about 30 minutes. Two firefighters were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. There were no civilian injuries. Red Cross assistance was requested for residents.

The Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating the origin and cause of the fire.

HEADS UP: Due to unhealthy air quality conditions resulting from the Canadian and northern United States wildfire smoke being carried into Maryland by prevailing northwesterly winds, resulting in a Code RED Air Quality Alert from the Maryland Dept. Of The Environment, the County's Alpha Ridge Landfill at 2350 Marriottsville Road in Marriottsville, will be CLOSING at 1:00 p.m. today, July 17th.

Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week

The second Sunday of August through the following Saturday is designated as Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week each year. During this week, qualifying apparel and footwear priced at $100 or less per item are exempt from the state sales tax. The first $40 of a backpack or bookbag purchase is also tax-free. (Accessory items, except for backpacks, are not included.)
This year's Tax-Free Week theme focuses on savings, for families, for local businesses, and for communities across the state.
We encourage Marylanders to consider doing their Tax-Free Week shopping at Maryland businesses. Purchases made at local retailers help support neighborhood jobs and contribute to the strength of local economies.

NOTICE: The residential tip fee for wood waste at the Alpha Ridge Landfill is waived through July 15th, 2026.

Due to recent storm-generated wood debris, the tip fee will be waived for residential hauled wood waste to the Alpha Ridge Landfill through Wednesday, July 15.

The tip fee for commercially hauled wood waste will still be in effect.

This site accepts brush, yard trim, grass, leaves and wood chips.

Residential Hours are: Monday-Saturday, 8AM to 4PM.
Commercial Hours are: Monday-Saturday, 8AM to 3:30PM.
