Twenty-five years ago today, our nation experienced a tragedy that changed America forever.
โ€‹
Nearly 3,000 lives were lost. Families were forever changed. First responders ran toward unimaginable danger. Americans watched in disbelief as events unfolded that none of us would ever forget.
โ€‹
For those of us who remember that day, we remember where we were. We remember who we were with. We remember the fear, the heartbreak, and the uncertainty.
โ€‹
But we also remember what came afterward.
โ€‹
We remember American flags everywhere. We remember strangers helping strangers. We remember communities coming together. We remember a country united by grief, but strengthened by an extraordinary sense of patriotism and love for one another.
โ€‹
Today, on ๐—ฃ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ผ๐˜ ๐——๐—ฎ๐˜†, the Gilmer County Sheriffโ€™s Office remembers every life lost on September 11, 2001, the first responders who answered the call, those who later lost their lives because of illnesses connected to their service at Ground Zero, and the countless families who have carried the weight of that day for 25 years.

A quarter of a century has passed.
