Emergency response is about far more than what happens when lights and sirens are on.

The moments our community sees during an emergency are supported by countless hours of training, preparation, equipment checks, coordination, and teamwork behind the scenes every single day.

At Gilmer County Fire/Rescue, our team continues working hard to strengthen their skills, support one another, and stay prepared for whatever challenges may come their way.

Whether responding to medical emergencies, fires, vehicle accidents, or severe weather events, readiness starts long before the call comes in.

We are proud of the dedication our crews show to this community and grateful for the trust the citizens of Gilmer County place in us each day.

Thank you for your continued support of the men and women who serve this county.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. 🪖🎖️

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend — it is a time to reflect on the courage, selflessness, and dedication of those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy every day. 🇺🇸

At Gilmer County Fire Rescue, we stand alongside our community in remembering our fallen heroes and honoring the families who continue to carry their legacy forward.

Please take a moment today to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day. 🇺🇸

From all of us at GCFR, thank you to those who served and especially to those who never made it home. We will never forget. 🫡🚒🇺🇸

This EMS Week, I just want to say thank you.

Thank you to the paramedics, EMTs, dispatchers, firefighters, nurses, supervisors, educators, mechanics, support staff, and every person behind the scenes who answers the call when someone’s worst day becomes your responsibility.

People see the lights and sirens, but they don’t always see the sacrifices behind them.

The missed holidays.

The sleepless nights.

The meals that go cold.

The emotional weight carried home after difficult calls.

The moments you hold together for complete strangers while quietly carrying your own burdens.

EMS is more than a profession. It is a commitment to service, compassion, and showing up when others cannot.

This week is a reminder that what you do matters. Every life touched, every family comforted, and every patient cared for with dignity leaves an impact far beyond what you may ever hear about again.

To those still answering calls at 3 a.m., still mentoring the next generation, still giving everything they have to their communities despite the challenges facing EMS today… you are appreciated more than words can properly express.

Take pride in the difference you make every single day.

From all of us at Gilmer Fire/Rescue, Happy EMS Week to all of our brothers and sisters in public safety and healthcare.

Stay safe, take care of each other, and never forget the value of the work you do.

One thing I’ve come to appreciate about Gilmer County Fire Rescue is the pride our people take in serving this community.

In EMS and the fire service, the public usually sees us on someone’s worst day.

What they don’t always see is the preparation behind the scenes long before the tones ever drop, the training, teamwork, planning, and commitment that make those responses possible.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some outstanding professionals, but there’s something special about being part of an organization where people genuinely care about doing the job the right way every single day.

From operational readiness and training to patient care and coordination with our public safety and healthcare partners, our crews continue to demonstrate professionalism, dedication, and pride in this profession.

I’m proud to serve alongside this team and excited about where Gilmer County Fire Rescue is headed.

Training Alert
Wrapping up 8 days of Rope Rescue Training tomorrow with the written test.

Eight members of Gilmer County Fire/Rescue will earn their RTR-1 National Certification. Over the past eight days, these men and women have spent countless hours learning knots, building and operating rope rescue systems, and sharpening the skills needed to perform technical rescues safely and efficiently.

This kind of training builds confidence in your systems, your team, and yourself.

We are extremely proud of the hard work and dedication our personnel have put in over the last year. The blood, sweat, and tears invested into becoming the all-hazards department our community deserves ensuring we are prepared to protect our community in any emergency situation.

Please help us congratulate these firefighters for their commitment to training and serving Gilmer County.

We also want to send out a big thank you to Bradburn’s towing for allowing us to train at their facility

Some fire stations are just buildings.
Others become part of the identity of a community.

Station 1 has proudly served Ellijay, East Ellijay, and all of Gilmer County since 2008. Located in the heart of Georgia’s Apple Capital, every wall, patch, and apparatus inside carries part of our department’s story.

We are honored to be featured by the FD Collectors Club in their “Spotlight on Excellence.” But our legacy is not defined only by buildings or equipment. It is defined by the people who have served here and the sacrifices made along the way.

On August 7, 2023, our department experienced its first Line of Duty Death. Since that day, we have remained committed to honoring our fallen brother and remembering all members who are no longer with us. Their service and sacrifice remain part of this department every day.

This station represents generations of service, sacrifice, leadership, and commitment to our community.

We are grateful for the opportunity to share a small part of our history and proud to continue serving alongside the men and women of Gilmer County Fire Rescue.

“Legacy forged at Ellijay, every detail tells a story of service.”

Leadership accountability is more than answering for mistakes.
It’s being willing to own the culture, performance, and direction of the organization every day.

Strong leaders do not shift blame downward when things go wrong and take credit upward when things go right. They create clear expectations, support their people, make difficult decisions, and remain accountable for the outcomes.

In public safety, accountability builds trust. Not just with the community, but within the organization itself. People will work hard for leaders they trust.

Trust is built through consistency, transparency, and accountability.

Over the years, we've learned that leadership in EMS and public safety is not about titles or authority. It’s about showing up consistently for your people, especially on the difficult days.

Whether leading large or small systems, developing new programs, or working beside crews in the field, we’ve always believed leaders should never ask others to carry responsibility they are unwilling to carry themselves.

The strongest organizations are built when leaders stay visible, stay engaged, and never stop owning the mission alongside their teams.
