The Ellington Fire Marshal is conducting an origin and cause investigation of a fire that occurred this afternoon. The The Ellington Volunteer Fire Department (CT) was called to 144 Muddy Brook Rd for a reported chimney fire. Upon arrival fire had extended into the walls of the single family home and travelled upward into the 2nd floor and roof area. With assistance from mutual aid partners the fire was extinguished although moderate damage occurred and the residents will have to temporarily relocate. Early notification was provided to the residents by a battery smoke alarm. The Ellington Fire Marshal encourages all residents to have working smoke alarms in their homes. Heating season is upon us and this is an important reminder of the critical importance of having working smoke alarms.
