The Ellington Parks and Recreation Commission and recreation staff continue to make a concentrated effort to provide a cross section of quality programming on a year-round basis. An earnest effort has been made to create and offer programs, both on a passive and non-passive basis, for all age groups within the community. Additional special events and “creative” programming continue to be of intere

st to the residents of the community, providing department staff with the opportunity to plan and implement family oriented activities too. The department is staffed by two full-time recreation professionals, one of which also serves as the director of waterfront. Part time positions (generated by revenue) include athletic officials, special skills instructors, lifeguards, day camp counselors, and program supervisors. The Ellington Recreation Department could not function without our many volunteers, we are honored to work with over 350 community volunteers on an annual basis.

☀️ That’s a wrap on Summer Camp 2026! 💜💛

The final two weeks of camp were packed with fun, from visits with Ellington Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Carly’s Critters, Tails of Joy and Critter Caravan to cupcakes from MH Bakes and ice cream from Soft Serve CT.

Campers also enjoyed a Foam Party with The Great Bounce Back, Campardy with CNT Entertainment, Laser Tag with Rolling Video Games of New England, and an obstacle course from CT Inflatables. Our camp staff kept the fun going with STEM activities, crafts, games, and camp-wide competitions!

A huge thank you to all of our visitors, vendors, counselors, and especially our campers and families for making this summer so memorable.

We also want to give a special thank you to everyone who contributed to our Crystal Lake Food Bank collection throughout the summer. Your generosity made a difference in our community! 🥫❤️

☀️ We're catching up on some unforgettable camp memories!

Over the past two weeks, our campers have stayed busy with an incredible lineup of activities and special visitors. Highlights included Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard, Circus Moves, a visit from Bluey, a camp-wide talent show, Crystal Lake Fire Department, the Ellington Police Department, Kloter's Ice Cream Barn, brownies from JRego's Gathering Place, a visit from Oakridge Dairy LLC, and some hands-on STEM activities led by our amazing camp staff.

A huge thank you to our campers, counselors, families, and all of our community partners for helping make another two fantastic weeks of camp possible!

We're more than halfway through Week 7, and there's still plenty of fun ahead. Stay tuned for visits from Tails of Joy Therapy Dogs, the Ellington Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Carly's Critters, and more! 📸

🌟 Another great summer of Adventure Awaits is in the books! 💜

Across two exciting weeks of Adventure Awaits, campers explored some of the region's top attractions, including Roger Williams Park Zoo, Lake Compounce, Six Flags, Nomads, Quassy, Sonny's Place, and the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Thank you to all of the campers, families, and staff who joined us throughout both sessions and helped make this year's Adventure Awaits another memorable success. We hope everyone had an amazing time, and we can't wait for next summer's adventures! 📸

☀️ Week 4 is in the books! 💜💛

Another incredible week of camp was filled with creativity, discovery, and plenty of summer fun! Campers enjoyed a colorful Paint Party with Angela's Hair on the Move, explored hands-on exhibits with the Connecticut Science Center and Connecticut Children's Museum, cooled off with Kona Ice, and wrapped up the week in style with an unforgettable Foam Party. A big shout out to all of the campers and counselors for organizing and donating the hygiene drive. We love seeing our camp contribute to the community!

We also had the pleasure of welcoming Ellington's Emerging Leaders, who worked alongside our staff by creating and leading activities for our campers. Their enthusiasm, leadership, and positive energy made a wonderful impact throughout the week.

🏈📣 Ellington Roadrunners Football & Cheer Registration is Open! 📣🏈

The Ellington Roadrunners offer football and cheer programs for youth entering kindergarten through 8th grade, providing a fun, team-oriented environment where participants build skills, confidence, teamwork, and lasting friendships.

Whether your child is new to the sport or returning for another season, the Roadrunners welcome athletes and cheerleaders of all experience levels.

Please note that this is not an Ellington Recreation Department program. We are happy to help share opportunities offered by local youth organizations that serve our community.
