Dear Members of Ellington Volunteer Ambulance Corps ,

As we reflect on the work we have accomplished together, we want to take a moment to express our deepest appreciation to you. Every call you answer, every challenge you face, and every sacrifice you make reflects an unwavering commitment to service that defines the very best of the EVAC organization.

Your dedication—whether responding to emergencies in the middle of the night, supporting your colleagues during difficult calls, or stepping up when the community needs you most—does not go unnoticed. The compassion you show to patients and families, the professionalism you bring to every situation, and the resilience you demonstrate day after day are the foundation of our ambulance corps’ strength.

We are continually inspired by your work, your skill, and your willingness to go above and beyond. You represent the highest standards of care, and our community is safer, stronger, and better because of you.

Thank you for your hard work, your courage, and your steadfast commitment to our mission. It is an honor to serve alongside you, and we are profoundly grateful for everything you do.

Once again THANK YOU for everything you do for EVAC and the town of Ellington.

In Memory of Robert “Bob” Sandberg

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Robert (Bob) Sandberg, who left us over the weekend with his family by his side. Bob dedicated more than 65 years of service to the Ellington Volunteer Fire Department and served as Chief of the Ellington Volunteer Ambulance Corps from 1982 to 1994.

Bob was the definition of commitment to community. Over the years, he served as a firefighter, EMT, driver, and Captain — always stepping forward, always leading by example, always putting the needs of others first. His impact on Ellington is immeasurable, and his legacy lives on in every member he trained, every call he answered, and every life he touched.

We are profoundly grateful for his decades of honorable service, his steady leadership, and his unwavering dedication to the people of Ellington. Bob will be missed greatly, but he will never be forgotten.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Chief Sandberg. Thank you for a lifetime of service.

On Friday April 3, 2026, EVAC Chief Peter Hany, Sr., Assistant Chief Bruce Hoffman and member Ed Landsberg (all American Heart Association instructors) had the opportunity to teach a Heartsaver CPR, AED and First Aid (Adult, Child and Infant) certification class to 48 employees at Earthlight Technologies, LLC as part of their annual Safety Day. The students completed the didactic portion of the course online and then came together during Safety Day to do the practical / hands-on portion.

If you, your organization or place of employment are interested in setting up a First Aid or CPR/AED course, please reach out to Peter Hany, Sr. or Bruce Hoffman at [email protected] or 860.870.3170.

April 20, 2026 - After today’s EVAC general meeting, Caitlin Sutyak, EMT and Assistant Chief Bruce Hoffman, led a training on CPAP - Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. CPAP is for the emergency management of congestive heart failure and other respiratory emergencies and has become the standard of care. CPAP forces a small amount of air pressure through the pulmonary tree and into the alveoli, causing them to reopen. Additionally, the increased intrathoracic pressure will also reduce the patient’s hypertensive state, allowing the fluid shift to occur more easily. The pressure created by CPAP is held constant throughout the breathing cycle; the patient will feel a small amount of “back pressure” during the exhalation phase.
