On December 31,2021 the fire department responded to 16 Lord Road for a structure fire. Last month the family planned a catered dinner and a gave donation to the department to show their gratitude for our quick response to their home. Due to the damage their house needed to be rebuilt, and they are now settled back in. We are thankful for their generosity and are happy that they are back in their home.

Last night Chief Seitz appointed the department’s newest Lieutenant. Lieutenant Streiber has been a long time member of the fire department, involved in the towns emergency management program, as well as a member of the ambulance corps. Congratulations Lieutenant Streiber we know you will make us proud.

Be advised CLFD is currently conducting training on the trails off of Crystal Ridge Dr. There will be emergency vehicles on the side of the road.

Last night the Department participated in The Torchlight Parade in Ellington, and were awarded Best Theme. Thank you very much for inviting us and a wonderful night of fun for the department.

2 weeks ago, CLFD welcomed a class from Eastern Connecticut Fire School (ECFS), in collaboration with Tolland - CT - Fire Department, to discuss flashover fire conditions, an exceptionally hazardous situation in which all the contents of a room combust simultaneously due to high heat from a growing fire. This is the subject of extensive research, and our department greatly values the opportunity to expand our knowledge, ultimately ensuring the safety of both firefighters and our community. Last week, participating firefighters journeyed to ECFS in Willimantic to partake in training utilizing the flashover simulator, allowing them to experience the progression and early warning indicators of a flashover. A striking image of a melted helmet underscores the intense heat encountered during this exercise.

Last Wednesday, September 6 the Crystal Lake Dive Team attended the Tolland County Dive drill at Amston Lake in Lebanon. Lebanon Fire Department hosted both Tolland and Whindham County dive teams providing a great opportunity to work with a neighboring county. Big thanks to the Lebanon Fire Department for letting us share some of their great photos from the dive!
