Looking Back at Nearly 30 Years of Art Education
🎨 Calling all Ellinwood Art Alumni! 🎨
As we begin another school year, it got us wondering…
How many art teachers have started their journey in the Ellinwood High School Art Room under Mr. Greg Maxwell?
For nearly 30 years, Mr. Maxwell has inspired hundreds of students to explore their creativity, build confidence, and discover a passion for art. Along the way, many of his students have gone on to pursue careers in education, graphic design, photography, fine arts, and other creative fields.
Today we saw another former Ellinwood student post her journey as an art teacher, and it made us wonder…
Trinity is pleased to welcome McKenna Nuss as our new part-time high school and middle school art teacher. Entering her seventh year in education, McKenna has taught art at every grade level—from elementary through high school—and brings experience in visual arts, graphic design, photography, and yearbook.
A graduate of Emporia State University with a degree in Art Education and a master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction, McKenna is especially excited to introduce students to pottery this year while continuing to help them grow in drawing and painting.
For McKenna, art is about more than learning techniques—it’s a place where students discover confidence and joy.
“Art is a safe space,” she says. “Some students may struggle in other subjects, but they’re excited about art, and that’s what keeps them engaged in school. I think it’s important that every student has a place where they can succeed.”
