Greetings Alumni Members!

The Ellis High School Alumni (KS) Parade will begin tomorrow (05/23/2025) at 10 a.m. sharp! Line-up will take place at 9 a.m. near Dolce Vita in the 200blk of E. 2nd.

If you are not watching or participating in the parade and need to get somewhere else in town, please seek an alternate route. The disruption in traffic flow should last 30 minutes to 1 hour.

The parade route is as follows:

-SOUTH on Washington St from 3rd.

-The parade will then turn WEST at 10th and Washington and proceed to Cottonwood.

-At 10th and Cottonwood, the parade will turn NORTH and then disband at 6th Street.

Vehicles that want to go back to the area of the North Hill should proceed to the intersection of 6th and Jefferson and turn North toward Love's. We are expecting a big turnout this year and would like to keep traffic from coming back on the parade if at all possible.

We will have officers stationed near the busier intersections for traffic control. There will also be barricades at 10th and Dorrance and 9th and Dorrance. These are in place to control traffic entering and exiting the park area.

As always, throwing candy from moving vehicles is fine! Please make sure to throw candy far enough that it stays out of the path of vehicles that are following you.

After the parade, there will be a car show at Chrysler Park! Our Museums and local restaurants will be open as well! Please stop in and visit them!

Have a great weekend! Congrats on 125 years!!

The Ellis City Council has approved Wilson & Company to conduct a Low-to-Moderate Income (LMI) Survey as part of our efforts to apply for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for the shovel ready Booster Pump Station Project to be located in the south parking lot of Ellis High School.

This survey will be randomly distributed to selected addresses within the City of Ellis. Representatives from Wilson & Company may contact residents by mail, phone, email, or in person to complete the survey. If you receive a survey, we kindly ask that you complete and return it as soon as possible. May 31, 2026 is the deadline to apply for the first round of CBDG funding. Your participation is extremely important and helps support potential grant funding opportunities for our community.

The City of Ellis has been successful with previous LMI surveys which helped secure grant funding for projects including the municipal pool and campground expansion.

We greatly appreciate your time and participation in helping improve our community.

If you are hearing repeated loud bangs echoing through town, there is no cause for concern.

Union Pacific is reinforcing the railway bridge at 9th and Dorrance and is using heavy machinery to drive pilings.

Today, Officer Devin Sun completed his first major step in his law enforcement career by completing a 14-week journey at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center.

We are proud of your accomplishment and can’t wait to see what your future holds!

During his time at KLETC, Officer Sun was elected class president by his peers in the 356th Basic Training Class. He received an award from KLETC to commemorate his dedication to being a leader.

Officer Sun is pictured below with Chief Smith and Officer Flower.

Now, Officer Sun will begin field training; an approximately 8-week program designed to teach Officer Sun the ins-and-outs of day to day police work , and ensure he is ready to serve the City of Ellis and its Community Members.

Officer Devin Sun from the Ellis Police Department is our 356th Basic Training Class President.

Born and raised in Glen Elder, Kansas, Officer Sun learned the importance of perseverance and responsibility through life’s challenges, shaping him into the driven and compassionate leader he is today. These experiences instilled in him a strong sense of empathy and a commitment to doing what is right, even when it is difficult.

After graduating as salutatorian with honors from Lakeside High School in 2013, he moved to larger cities where he worked in manufacturing for several years. Over time, he felt a desire for a more meaningful career and pursued an opportunity to enter law enforcement alongside a lifelong friend.

During his time at the academy, he discovered a true passion for the profession and is proud to return to a smaller community, where he is committed to making a positive impact in Ellis, Kansas.

Congratulations to Officer Sun on this achievement. Join us on Friday for the 356th Basic Training graduation!
