Last week, HR Manager Skelton attended the Missouri SHRM Conference at Lake of the Ozarks. SHRM (the Society for Human Resource Management) is the world's leading professional organization for human resources, providing education, networking opportunities, and expertise on workplace trends, employment law, employee engagement, and organizational leadership.

By participating in conferences like this, we stay informed about emerging workforce challenges, legal and regulatory updates, and proven practices that help organizations attract, support, and retain talented employees. The knowledge and connections gained through SHRM events strengthen our workplace and help ensure we continue providing exceptional service to our employees and the community we serve.

We are proud to have five team members representing our agency this week at the APCO International Conference & Expo in San Antonio, Texas.

Attending conferences isn't just about travel; it's about growth. It gives our staff the opportunity to learn innovative practices, discover new technologies, network with public safety professionals from around the world, and bring fresh ideas back to our organization.

As emergency communications continues to evolve, staying informed and engaged helps ensure we're providing the highest level of service possible to our community and the departments that we serve..

Yesterday, we recognized Dispatcher Amy L. for her outstanding work assisting with the birth of a baby boy on June 28, 2026.

Amy received a call reporting that a woman was actively giving birth and the baby's head was visible. Remaining calm and focused, Amy provided childbirth instructions that helped guide the caller through the delivery. She then continued providing pre-arrival care instructions for both mother and newborn until emergency medical personnel arrived on scene.

Amy's professionalism, composure, and commitment to helping others made a difference during a critical moment for this family.

To celebrate the occasion, Amy and her shift enjoyed a cookie cake following the recognition.

Congratulations, Amy, and thank you for your dedication to serving our community every day.

Earlier this week, we gathered to celebrate the retirement of an extraordinary leader, mentor, and public safety professional—Kim O'Mara. 🎉

For 38 years, Kim has been a cornerstone of Central County Emergency 911, serving our community with unwavering dedication, professionalism, and heart. Beginning her career on July 10, 1988, Kim witnessed—and helped lead—the transformation of emergency communications from paper run cards and radios to the advanced technology we rely on today.

Throughout her career, Kim saw the implementation of emergency medical dispatch, was a trusted Shift Supervisor for 30 years, a key contributor to major technology implementations, and a mentor to countless telecommunicators. Her leadership helped guide Central County through periods of significant growth, innovation, and change while maintaining the highest standards of service.

Kim's commitment to excellence earned her numerous honors, including Employee of the Year and multiple Meritorious Service and Life Save Awards. More importantly, her impact can be measured in the lives she touched, the careers she shaped, and the countless emergencies she helped manage with calm professionalism.

In 2023, Kim continued her legacy by joining our Training Department, sharing her knowledge and experience with the next generation of emergency communications professionals.

Kim, thank you for your remarkable service, your leadership, and your dedication to Central County and our community. Your legacy will continue to inspire us for years to come.

It was another busy July 4th for our dispatchers, but not in the way it traditionally is! Severe storms moved through our entire region, causing a surge in the number of calls for service. As a result of the rain, the number of fire related calls were down from years past. Thank you to all dispatchers, firefighters, and paramedics who worked the holiday weekend so others could enjoy theirs safely!
