🚴‍♂️ E‑Bike or Off‑Highway Motorcycle? Let’s Clear Up the Confusion. 🏍️

We’ve noticed more kids riding electric dirt bikes around town—and many parents understandably assume these are “e‑bikes.” But under Wisconsin law, most of these electric dirt bikes are actually classified as Off‑Highway Motorcycles (OHMs), not bicycles.

Here’s what Wisconsin Statute 340.01(15ph) says an electric bicycle must have:

➡️ Fully operational pedals (must be able to propel the bike by human power)
➡️ Motor of 750 watts or less
➡️ Must fit into one of these classes:

🔹 Class 1 E‑Bike
• Pedal‑assist only
• Motor stops helping at 20 mph
• No throttle

🔹 Class 2 E‑Bike
• Throttle‑controlled (can operate with or without pedaling)
• Motor cuts off at 20 mph

🔹 Class 3 E‑Bike
• Pedal‑assist only
• Motor stops assisting at 28 mph
• Helmet required for riders under 18

❗ If the bike does NOT have pedals, it is NOT an e‑bike under Wisconsin law.
Those models fall under OHM and DNR regulations, which come with different rules for age, operation, and where they can be ridden.

OHM cannot be ridden on roadways, sidewalks or parks within the Village. If you are not sure the classification reach out to your local police department or the Wisconsin DNR.

Let’s keep our kids safe and our community informed.

We are looking for information on the driver that may or may not have been aware that they struck another vehicle while at the Zion church today 04/23/26. The vehicle in question is a 2010 era, light blue F150 with WI farm plates. The tailgate on this vehicle is inoperable and stays down. At the time it had a red push mower in the bed. It was driven by an elderly male. Any information is appreciated. Please call the police department at 715-273-3275.

🚧 Road Closure (Yes… we really mean it this time) 🚧

Piety St is now closed from W. Warner St to W. Main St as construction work has officially kicked off.

Translation: it’s torn up, dug out, and not a great place for a casual cruise—so please avoid the area if you can. And yes… that includes ATV’s, UTV’s, and golf carts (we see you 👀).

Access will still be available for local residents, as well as churches and schools in the area.

We appreciate your patience while things get a little messy before they get better. Thanks for helping us keep it safe out there!
