* WHAT....The warm temperatures in the middle to upper 70s to
middle 80s may cause people to underestimate the dangers of the
cold water temperatures which are currently in the upper 40s.

* WHERE...Coastal Hancock and Coastal Washington Counties.

* WHEN...From Saturday morning through Saturday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...The cold water temperatures can quickly cause
hypothermia to anyone immersed in the waters. Anyone on boats or
paddlecraft should use extreme caution to avoid this threat.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Beach Hazards Statement is issued on days when a significant
number of boats and paddlecraft are expected to be out on the
water and when warm air temperatures may cause people to
underestimate the danger of the cold water. Paddle smart from the

..National Weather Service Cold Water Safety Message...

* The warm air temperatures this weekend in the middle to upper 60s
may cause people to underestimate the dangers of the cold water
temperatures which are currently only around 50 degrees on
Moosehead Lake and in the middle to upper 50s on smaller lakes and
rivers.

* The cold water temperatures can quickly cause hypothermia to
anyone immersed in the water. According to the Maine Warden
Service, when the water temperature is below 60 degrees, the
average submerged person could lose dexterity within minutes and
be unable to accomplish simple tasks. Anyone on small boats,
canoes or kayaks should plan accordingly if recreating this
weekend and use extreme caution to avoid this threat. Paddle
smart from the start and always wear your life jacket! &&

and 35 degrees over coastal Downeast will result in frost
formation.

* WHERE...Coastal Hancock, Coastal Washington, Central Washington,
Interior Hancock, and Southern Penobscot Counties.

* WHEN...From 2 AM to 9 AM EDT Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Sensitive
outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.

Isolated to scattered showers with the potential for thunder are
expected across the entire region for this afternoon into this
evening. Thunderstorms may contain grauple/small hail and heavy
rainfall. Localized strong gusts are possible.

Thunderstorms can become strong, producing hail, damaging winds,
deadly lightning, and very heavy rainfall. Continue to monitor the
National Weather Service or your local media outlet for updates

U.S. Route 1/Ellsworth, Main Street commuters using the Union River Bridge, please note:

Beginning Monday, May 4, 2026, crews contracted by the Maine Department of Transportation will begin soil testing/boring around the Union River Bridge as part of early preparation for future bridge repairs.

📍 Where: Lower light at State and Main Streets (Union River Bridge area)

📅 When: May 4, 2026, through approximately May 15

🕒 Hours:
• Monday–Friday: 7:00 AM setup – 8:00 AM work begins ending at 4:00 PM

🚧 What to expect:
• One-lane, alternating traffic across the bridge
• Law Enforcement on site
• Flaggers on site to safely guide traffic
• One sidewalk open for pedestrians

Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes if possible and to use caution when traveling through the area.
