The Ellsworth County Sheriff's Office would like to welcome aboard two new 911 Dispatcher Trainees to the Agency.......Miss Malea Ryan of Lyons, Kansas and Miss Skyler Goss of Sylvan Grove, Kansas.

Both young ladies are currently working through their initial training stages and should be up to speed very soon.

And.......we bid a very sad farewell recently to Mrs. Linda Goss of our Communications Center.

Linda elected to take her retirement earlier than expected, so that she could care for a loved one in need. We will miss your presence on the night shift young lady!

The Ellsworth County Sheriff's Office would like to welcome our newest Patrol Deputy, Horacio Aldrete (Badge #279).

Horacio comes to us from the Lindsborg Police Department and is an experienced and Certified Officer with nine years of service.

He is a dedicated family man and will continue to call Lindsborg, Kansas his home.

In addition to this Welcome Aboard, we would like folks to know that we have a current opening in our 911 Dispatch Center as well as an opening for a Patrol Deputy. Both positions will be night positions after the completion of training.

We work a "Panama Schedule" in both divisions, meaning 12 hour shifts, two nights on, two nights off, two nights on, three nights off. You basically work 15 days a month and are off 15 days a month.

If interested, please go online to the Ellsworth County, Kansas website and complete a County Application. You can also give Sheriff Bernard a call at 785-472-4416 Monday through Friday during normal business hours with any questions.

On the early morning hours of November 22, 2025, Deputies responded to a call of a Disorderly person causing a "rukus" inside of the Ellsworth Kwik Shop. It was reported that the man had left the store. Shortly thereafter, an attempted Burglary was reported to be in progress several blocks away, still within the City of Ellsworth, Kansas.

Deputies from the Ellsworth County Sheriff's Office responded to the City of Ellsworth. Upon their arrival, the suspect fled on foot and ran into another house nearby. Officers pursued this fleeing Felon.

The suspect resisted Officer's commands, Tasers were deployed, and after a short physical altercation, he was taken into custody and transported to the Ellsworth County Detention Center.

Charges of Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Damage to Property, Attempted Burglary, Making Criminal Threats, and Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer are being forwarded to the Ellsworth County Attorney's Office at this time.

Just some friendly advice..........................if there are three (3) yes three fully uniformed Deputy Sheriff's all giving you commands to STOP and QUIT RESISTING, it is a safe bet that this is EXACTLY what they WANT you to do!

This time of year, our Deputies are averaging having to work two to three car vs. deer accidents per day on our two-lane Highways and County roads.

The Kansas Highway Patrol handles the majority of those that occur on I-70. I / we don't really keep track of the ones that we do not actively respond to ourselves......so that daily average for our County "MAY" be a bit higher than stated.

With the Fall Harvest in full-swing, the animal population is definitely on the move. You can see it just by the sheer number of roadkill along our roads.

Why just last week at one accident scene, I had this fellow with one tooth telling me that he hasn't eaten this good in years! (I just made that up......Lord I apologize!!)

What I wanted to stress this morning is to SLOW DOWN and SCAN The Ditches.

Bright lights need to be dimmed upon the approach of other vehicles, however, as soon as it is safe to do so, LIGHT THAT ROAD UP!!! They come from nowhere special and dart right onto the roads without warning!!

Annnnd......If I catch you running this fast on a 65 mph roadway (especially at night), YOU SHALL BE CITED!!!

In this young fellow's case, when asked if I could just give him a warning, my answer was this.....

"Sure, I'll give you a warning. If I catch you going this fast again, I'm going to write you another ticket just like this one!". There is your WARNING!!!

PLEASE.....SLOW DOWN!!! Hitting a deer at 80 mph will do DEVASTATING DAMAGE to both you and your vehicle!!!

Respectfully.....

Rory

We had our annual Fi****ms Qualification Shoot today which led into some low-light shooting conditions after the sun dropped.

We hope that none of us ever have to use these skills, but if we do, it's a sure bet we will hit exactly what we are aiming for!!!

And what a warm and beautiful Fall day and evening it turned out to be....

Sheriff Bernard had a "Ride-Along" today with a local Celebrity and Ellsworth City Councilman, Mr. Daniel Moon.

Daniel stood for a picture with members of our staff on this Veteran's Day.

Navy, Army, Air Force, and Marine Corp were all represented here......but we couldn't find us a Coast Guard person!

What a busy weekend it was for Ellsworth County Deputies and Sheriff Bernard! (He was the On-Call Admin Officer)

Multiple reports were taken Friday through Sunday which included two Burglary In-Progress calls. (Those are the kind where guns come out and great caution is taken during our response and approach)

Someone must have said the "Q-Word"

Many thanks to the surrounding Agencies who rolled our way to back us up!!!
