The Chemung County Sheriff's Office is a full service law enforcement agency with approximately 142 members and an annual budget of approximately $15 million. The Sheriff's Office is comprised of four divisions: Community Services/Civil, Corrections, Criminal Investigation Division and Police Services. The Sheriff's Office also has a Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT) and a Special Services Unit (SSU), a Community Resource Officer Program (CRO), a DWI Officer Program, a K-9 Program, as well as several other community based programs that enhance the agency's ability to adequately service the citizens of Chemung County.

The Chemung County Sheriffโ€™s Office Pistol Permit Office will be CLOSED Friday, June 26, 2026, through Friday, July 3, 2026.

The following week, July 6 โ€“ July 10, the office will be open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8:30 am - 4:15 pm (except the lunch hour, noon โ€“ 1:00 pm).

We apologize for the inconvenience. The office will reopen to normal hours starting on Monday, July 13, 2026.

The Chemung County Sheriffโ€™s Office announces the arrest of 45-year-old CHRISTOPHER S. PRICE of Elmira Heights, New York, for Burglary in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony, and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, a Class A Misdemeanor.

On June 8, 2026, around 09:07 A.M., Chemung County Sheriffโ€™s Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Lenox Avenue in the Town of Horseheads for a report of a theft of a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, Deputies discovered that PRICE had taken the homeownerโ€™s motor vehicle from an address that he had previously been trespassed from. The Criminal Investigation Division was made aware of the burglary and assisted in the remainder of the investigation.

Investigators learned that PRICE took the motor vehicle in the early morning hours and had returned it around 09:00 A.M. Upon returning the motor vehicle, PRICE entered the residence without permission and remained unlawfully inside the residence that he had previously trespassed from before being confronted by the homeowner.

As a result of the investigation, PRICE was arrested and arraigned by the Town of Horseheads Court, where an Order of Protection was issued against PRICE, and he was then remanded to the Chemung County Jail.

The Chemung County Sheriffโ€™s Office announces the arrest of 37-year-old DAVID J. MCCULLOUGH, of Horseheads, New York, for Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony.

On June 5, 2026, the Criminal Investigation Division of the Chemung County Sheriffโ€™s Office investigated an incident that occurred on June 4, 2026, at the Chemung County Jail. During the incident, MCCULLOUGH, an incarcerated individual, assaulted another Incarcerated Individual, causing serious physical injury.

As a result of the investigation, MCCULLOUGH was arrested for Assault in the Second Degree. MCCULLOUGH was processed and will appear in the City of Elmira Court at a later date.

The Chemung County Sheriffโ€™s Office announces the arrest of 31-year-old ANITA D. EVANS, of Sweet Valley, Pennsylvania, for Burglary in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony, Burglary in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony, and Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony.

On April 28, 2026, the Chemung County Sheriffโ€™s Office Road Patrol Division responded to an address on Mathews Road in the Town of Baldwin for a report of a burglary of a residence and garage on the property.

After the initial investigation, the Criminal Investigations Division was contacted and took over the investigation. Upon further investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, it was determined that on multiple occasions, EVANS entered and stole belongings from a garage on the property, as well as the dwelling, while the homeowner was not home.

On May 1st, a Warrant of Arrest was obtained for EVANS. Investigators worked in conjunction with multiple police agencies from Pennsylvania and North Carolina and determined that EVANS had fled New York and was found to be traveling through North Carolina. Shortly thereafter, EVANS was taken into custody by the Union County Sheriffโ€™s Office in Monroe, North Carolina, and remanded to the Union County Jail.

After extradition to New York from North Carolina, EVANS was also determined to have an active Bench Warrant issued by the Elmira City Court for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree and a Fugitive from Justice warrant out of the Bradford County Sheriffโ€™s Office, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for Petition to Revoke Parole, with a lead offense of Aggravated Assault, in Violation of Pennsylvania Crimes Code.

EVANS was arrested, then arraigned in the Town of Ashland Court for the burglaries and grand larceny charges, as well as the Fugitive from Justice. EVANS was remanded to the Chemung County Jail and will appear in multiple courts at a later date.

The Chemung County Sheriffโ€™s Office announces the arrest of 38-year-old VINCENT DEPAUL, of Waverly, New York, for Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree, all Class D Felonies.

On May 26, 2026, at approximately 1223 hours, Deputies from the Chemung County Sheriffโ€™s Office Road Patrol were dispatched to an address in the Town of Southport for a criminal mischief and theft report. During the investigation, it was learned that someone climbed a cell phone tower approximately 60 feet and cut and removed multiple copper utility lines. Deputies were able to develop a lead for a suspect vehicle and notified the Criminal Investigation Division.

The Criminal Investigation Division took over the investigation and ultimately developed DEPAUL as a suspect. After further investigation, it was learned that DEPAUL had redeemed the copper from the lines that had been cut at a scrap yard outside of Chemung County.

DEPAUL was subsequently arrested for Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree. DEPAUL was arraigned in the Town of Southport Court and remanded to the Chemung County Jail.

The Chemung County Sheriffโ€™s Office was assisted by the Waverly Police Department and the Tioga County Sheriffโ€™s Office.

The Chemung County Sheriffโ€™s Office announces the arrest of 29-year-old, KRISCHELE C. BROOKS, of Elmira, for Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony, and Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.

On June 3, 2026, at approximately 1054 hours, Deputies from the Chemung County Sheriffโ€™s Office Road Patrol were dispatched to an address in the Town of Southport for a disturbance. Upon interviewing witnesses, it was learned that BROOKS used a motor vehicle to strike a subject during the course of an argument. The victim sustained injuries due to BROOKS actions and received medical treatment at a local hospital. The Criminal Investigation Division was made aware and assisted in the remainder of the investigation.

BROOKS was subsequently arrested for Assault in the Second Degree and Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree. BROOKS was arraigned in the City of Elmira Court and remanded to the Chemung County Jail.
