As an Elected Member of the City Government's Legislative Branch, I cannot direct City Personnel or Resources. Over the past several months, I have received various complaints from 1st District Constituents regarding speeding on Euclid Avenue. If you aren't familiar with it, it's easily, the widest City street. Not to justify the alleged high rates of speed, but when you acknowledge and understand the psychology behind driving, traffic control, road design, etc it's no wonder the problem exists.

I'd like to thank Elmira Police Department Chief Kris Thorne, Sargent Linehan of the Traffic Buearu, and also the folks over at Chemung County, NY Government DPW/Highway Dept for addressing the concerns of my 1st District Constituents. Not only the human residents, especially with the 1st day of school less than a month away, but also the abundance of wildlife that resides here.

The highly visible speed sign will monitor speeds and collect that data. First facing South and then for a period of time facing North, to gather data on how big or not, the problem really is.

This is the sort of response and action Elmirans want from their City Government. Services, action, and results that they pay for and expect.

It is with regret, we need to share that over this past weekend, someone saw fit to remove & take one of our interpretive displays.

The loss of this jacket saddens us for several reasons. It not only deprives visitors of an educational opportunity, it also creates the need for unnecessary expenditures to replace it.

More importantly, the jacket was made & donated by one of our volunteers who has since passed away. The display represented an opportunity to keep this individual's memory & love of history alive for a very long time.

We would ask the responsible party to return the jacket, no questions asked to the Chemung County Historical Society.

If a ~ $70,000 misappropriation (overpayment) wasn't enough to worry about, tomorrow Monday 7/27 @ 530pm, we'll also be approving (or not) a 1 year extension with the entity that runs a baseball facility like in the picture thats been circulating all over SM.

See Resolution 2026-191 and tell me if you think it's a good, fair deal for the City of Elmira, it's taxpayers, and residents! And there's A LOT more to it, than what's here....

Council Workshop is such a joke these days....

7 min duration, 10:30a and by 10:37a we're walking out. All Elected Officials, some Department Heads, and one sole member from the public. Who is likely vying for a seat on Council in 2027. None the less, who could possibly make a meeting in the middle of the work day, not even on a usual "lunch hour". Unless you're a retiree or government employee πŸ™ƒ

The meeting lasted 7 mins. Yes, ONLY 7 mins. And that's because I asked some tough questions, pertaining to agenda item 2026-194 (check it out for yourself, please. Link in comments). Councilmember Wilson did ask one quick question, but other than that, someone who gets paid ~ $150,000/year read to us. Yes. READ OUR AGENDA TO US. This is how it's been during my tenure on Council. We come to workshop to be read to, by the City's highest compensated employee, and then the Mayor assigns resolutions and we adjourn. And yes it's hostile as h=!! at times, just as our past Top Law Enforcement Official claims!

Why should Elected Officials be expected to read? And have exceptional reading comprehension?! Why do I need to come to a meeting and be read to, like adolescent school children or story time in a nursing home? Shouldn't the expectations be that we come to Council Workshop prepared and ready to discuss the agenda and items? Especially considering we receive our agendas 24-48 hours in advance, in most cases!

Looking forward to some more real tangible changes in the future, that can't come soon enough....

Oh and P.S. no one, and I mean NO ONE, makes me attend workshop. Nor any other Councilmember for that matter. No, not even the most self righteous and pretentious member on Council. Whether he was assigned a resolution that makes him think so or not. For the record, I stopped attending workshop long ago because of the above- it's hostile, degrading, disrespectful, and really quite unproductive. So I stopped submitting myself to such a toxic environment and stayed the course. Advocating and fighting for Elmira, where it matters, inside (and outside) of Council Chambers.

Hope to see you Monday night 7/27/26 @ 530pm. Come speak your peace!

Make sure you get out and vote, if you haven't already! I was #109 at my polling location, at about 7:45p. Seems extremely low turn out in my opinion....

Polls are open until 9p!
