Today is International Overdose Awareness Day, the Elmira Police Department wants to make sure every resident knows how to save a life. Overdose is preventable, and public safety is a shared responsibility.
Every one of our officers carries Narcan (Naloxone), a life-saving medication that can reverse an opioid overdose. You can carry it, too.
Do you know the signs of an overdose?
• Unresponsive or cannot be woken up
• Slow, shallow, or stopped breathing
• Gurgling, choking, or unusual snoring sounds
• Blue or gray lips, skin, or fingertips

Know the Law: The Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act protects you. If you see someone overdosing and call 911, you receive certain legal protections against drug possession charges.
Don't hesitate. Make the call. Save a life.
