Dear Elmsford School District Community Members,
I am truly grateful for your continued support and engagement, and I would love to have your vote in this upcoming school board election on Tuesday, May 19, from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Your voice and participation are vital as we work together to build an even stronger district for our students, families, and staff.
I am proud to be the endorsed candidate by former Superintendent Dr. James Ryan, County Legislator James Nolan, Elmsford Mayor Robert Williams, Elmsford Deputy Mayor Nelson Lopez, and a bipartisan panel of Elmsford Village Trustees Marlies Dorio, Robert Caralyus, and David Signor. This broad support reflects a shared commitment to continuing the positive progress we have made in our schools.
Let me be clear: the negative narrative being pushed by a small few who repeatedly contact News 12 is completely and utterly false. It does not reflect the reality of what we have accomplished together or the direction we are heading. If you want the real facts about our district, I strongly encourage you to read the budget letter that was just sent out and that you should have received. It provides a transparent, detailed overview of our priorities and progress.
Over the past four years, we have prioritized low tax levies, school safety, and adding teachers year over year. We have delivered some of the lowest tax increases in all of Westchester County—including an entire year with no tax increase at all. On safety, we have added two school resource officers, completely overhauled our security camera system, and implemented many other enhancements to protect our children, staff, and entire community. While other districts, such as New Rochelle, have cut hundreds of teaching positions (including reports of 200 cuts), we have consistently added teaching positions every single year for the last four years. These choices reflect our commitment to educational excellence without overburdening our taxpayers.
I humbly ask for your support this Tuesday: please vote for me and vote for the budget. This will allow me to continue the important work I promised you when I was first elected just three short years ago.
Thank you, as always, for your incredible dedication and commitment to our community. Let’s keep the positivity going, make our school district even greater, and maintain strong fiscal responsibility to our taxpayers. When we do ask for resources, you can trust they will be used wisely and effectively for the benefit of our students.
Together, we are building a brighter future for Elmsford.
Sincerely,
John Hecht
Elmsford School Board Trustee
