Elmsford CERT Team

Elmsford CERT Team The Village of Elmsford has recently formed a Community Emergency
Response Team (CERT) comprised of residents who are interested in
serving their community.

A short time ago at one of our Emergency Preparedness Sessions a suggestion was made to see if the Village can help prepare residents to assist in a Village Emergency. The idea was so neighbors can help neighbors until emergency personnel arrived. After the last storm the same idea was brought up by another resident that also wanted to assist. I asked Trustee Raymond Cordi to look into this becaus

e of his emergency service training background and he was very excited to do so. The Board of Trustees and I are pleased to inform you that Trustee Cordi has completed his review, and is ready to start training residents. Some communities have established a CERT Team, which is people helping people, and we would like to do the same here. “The CERT Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills. CERT Members can assist others in your neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.”

This program is geared toward people that are not already trained in emergency services. First Responders are also welcome to attend.

Good morning everyone,
We are about to have some very hot weather over this weekend. Please remember:
Drink plenty of water, do not do any strenuous work outside, take breaks often, dress with light colored light weight clothing, stay in air conditioning as much as possible, check on the elderly and small children. If anyone is feeling ill call 911 immediately.
Make sure your pets have plenty of drinking water, don't leave them outside for long periods of time. If they are outside make sure they're in the shade. Never leave them in a hot car.
Also, take steps to prepare for electrical outages- have water available, processed foods that don't need to be cooked, all medications family members need, enough fuel in your car and cash on hand.
Stay safe over this weekend and always.

This week is National Hurricane Preparedness Week. It's time to make a plan:
1. Put together a plan- sit down with your family/household to review how you receive alerts, where you will shelter, how will you evacuate and where will you go, how you will communicate with family members during the hurricane.
2. Review the needs of members of your household- the elderly, babies and infants, medications.
3. Write down an emergency plan and make sure each family member has a copy.
4. Practice your plan with your household.
5. Remember to have a full tank of gas. Take cash out in the event the ATM's aren't working. Stock non-perishable foods and water for at least 3 days for each family member.

Good afternoon,
As we head into a holiday weekend we're also awaiting a snowstorm that may be significant. Although the report is for warmer weather on Sunday which may melt the snow, the weather can be unpredictable. Make sure you have enough supplies in the event you can't get out. Have flashlights available in the event power goes out and fresh batteries. Don't use candles to provide light. In the event power goes out or you see downed wires call Con Edison at 1-800-752-6633 and notify the Police Department. Don't go near downed wires. If you must go out dress for the weather. We all get comfortable in our cars and tend to underdress. Make sure you have boots, hats, gloves, scarfs and possibly a blanket in your car.
Remember- stay safe use caution

Good morning
It's that time of year again. Holidays are upon us and as we rush around getting our shopping, cooking and celebrating done we need to pause and make sure we are safe. Many will be on the roads- please be patient. Pack extra snacks and water in your car. Be mindful of the weather. Drive with caution. As you're cooking your holiday dinners and gathering with family and friends be careful. Follow cooking instructions carefully. If you have small children keep sharp objects away from them and be mindful of what they're eating. Elderly family members may have dietary restrictions- take care of them.
We wish everyone a joyous and safe holiday season!
