Today, the commanding officer of the Westchester County Airport Precinct was reassigned to cover minimum patrol staffing.

The Airport Lieutenant is responsible for overseeing law enforcement operations at the airport and helping ensure the safety and security of passengers, employees, and aviation facilities.

Those responsibilities don’t disappear because staffing becomes more difficult.

With increasing security concerns and ongoing challenges facing airports, supervisory shortages are forcing police leadership away from critical infrastructure and other specialized assignments.

That isn’t just a staffing issue.

It’s a public safety issue.

Our members remain steadfast and dedicated to protecting the Westchester County Airport and all of Westchester.

Westchester deserves better.

We’re calling on county leadership to fill vacant supervisory positions and strengthen the leadership structure of this department before today’s challenges become tomorrow’s crisis.
