A stark reminder from our brothers out west. One of the most dangerous things that we do on a regular basis is deal with traffic. Help us to keep the roads safe by remembering to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles, vehicles on the shoulder, and remember to follow the directions of traffic controllers. These precautions are for your safety and ours.

Osceola Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a car fire yesterday (8/9/26) on Highway 92 around H Blvd. During the incident we had a car ignore our traffic stop as he felt he waited for 20 minutes so he can decide for himself that it was ok to proceed. We had both lanes of traffic closed to deal with the fire and the driver drove on the grass shoulder around the fire truck nearly striking one of our firefighters coming around the front of the fire engine. He got to visit with one of Polk County Sheriff's finest about his decision.
It's sad when we have to have a reminder like this for the 5% that think they are entitled and the 95 % have to hear it. After the fire was suppressed (approximately 10 minutes) we had traffic up and going on a one lane basis. Its always our goal to get the incident taken care of in a timely manner and most of all get our firefighters home to their families. A huge thank you to the Polk County Sheriffs Office and to Tonniges Chevrolet for helping get traffic moving again, also people who take chance and want to get home to their families. PLEASE USE CAUTION AROUND ANY EMERGENCY SCENE!!!!

Keeping the tradition alive.

Last night Elmwood Rural Fire Dept, Elmwood Rescue, Murdock Volunteer Fire Department, Cass County EMS, and Cass County Sheriff's Office - NE responded to a UTV rollover on 322nd St. The initial caller stated the crash occurred at 322nd and Fletcher, but it was later discovered they were mistaken and the incident was actually at 322nd and McKelvie.

By the time emergency personnel arrived on scene the occupants had left the area. EMS personnel eventually located the occupants in a nearby bean field. One patient was transported lights and sirens for a trauma alert and the other was transported for minor injuries.

The unfortunate reality of emergency response is that things are not always very clear and oftentimes confusion and chaos make things difficult. Responders from all of the above agencies worked diligently together last night and achieved a positive outcome and for that we say thank you all.

A common sight at the fire station. Each pair of shoes sitting by the bench represents someone who donated their time to come maintain the safety of the community. They are here for their family and yours.

Did you know the Elmwood Fire station did not always stand on the north edge of town? In years past what is now the Cass County Rural Water building on 4th St. used to be the fire station. Years prior to that the old village office, which still has the Elmwood City Hall sign out front, served as the fire station on E St.
