In recognition of Denim Day and to bring awareness to Sexual Assault, members of the Elon Police Department and Town of Elon staff were encouraged to participate in Denim Day. Denim Day is an annual international campaign held on the last Wednesday in April (Sexual Assault Awareness Month) where people wear jeans to protest victim-blaming in sexual violence cases. Started by Peace Over Violence in 1999, it originated from a 1990s Italian Supreme Court ruling that overturned a r**e conviction because the victim wore tight jeans, implying consent. Thanks to all our staff that ventured out of their comfort zone to sport their favorite denim jeans! Thank you MPO Pyron for spearheading this intiative.

There is currently large police and fire presence at the Elon Elementary school due to an isolated incident. A small fire was ignited in a restroom on campus and an investigation has ensued. No one was injured and the fire was contained and extinguished quickly with minimal damage. The car rider pick has resumed, but we wanted to keep those who may be concerned informed and reassure all there is not ongoing public safety threat.

On April 15th the we held our 4th annual awards ceremony to honor the men and women serving our great community. Every year we take this time to recognize those folks that go above and beyond day after day. It is the highlight the year, when we can come together as one to publicly celebrate all the hard work and amazing accomplishments of our team. Here are some of our recipients:

Edgar Ocampo received the Harvester Award for his exceptional proactive policing, his outstanding drug seizures, and his unwavering commitment to removing illegal substances from our community.

Zach Cantaffa received the New Kop on the Block (NKOTB) that recognizes experienced lateral hired officers who have successfully transitioned into our culture, our expectations, and our way of doing business. This award recognizes someone who does more than simply show up—it honors an officer who leads by example, demonstrates initiative, and embraces growth.

Sgt. Camyrn Henley was awarded the 2025 Department "Top-shot" due to his proficient marksmanship during our annual firearm qualifications.
