A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service for portions of western Hidalgo County.

Strong thunderstorms are producing:
🌬️ Wind gusts up to 50 mph
🧊 Half-inch hail
🌧️ Heavy rainfall that may cause localized flooding
⚡ Frequent lightning

Communities that may be impacted include Mission, Hidalgo, Palmview, Peñitas, Sullivan City, La Joya, Palmhurst, North McAllen, Los Ebanos, and Sharyland.
If you are outdoors, seek shelter inside a sturdy building or vehicle. Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn Around, Don't Drown.

Strong thunderstorms are moving across portions of the Rio Grande Valley this evening. Some areas of the Valley may experience heavy rainfall, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and localized flooding.

The City of Elsa is monitoring conditions and city crews are prepared to respond if necessary.

If you must travel, use caution and never drive through a flooded roadway. Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

The City of Elsa is currently working to clean and improve alleys throughout our community. We kindly ask for your cooperation in helping us keep these areas clean.

✅ Please place all brush and bulky items in front of your property for scheduled pickup.

❌ Do NOT place brush, furniture, mattresses, trash, or other bulky items in the alleys. Items left in the alleys will NOT be picked up.

By working together, we can keep our neighborhoods cleaner, safer, and more accessible for everyone.

Since 1927, our community has grown, thrived, and written a story worth celebrating. And in just 8 months, on March 6, 2027, we'll gather to celebrate our centennial in a big way.

We can't share all the details just yet, but trust us: this is going to be a celebration unlike anything Elsa has ever seen. Big plans are underway, and we want you to be part of it 🫵.

The City of Elsa would like to inform residents that N. Fannin St, in front of the old Texas Plastics building, will be closed to thru traffic beginning Friday, July 3rd, due to service line maintenance.

⚠️ Road Closure Begins: Friday, July 3rd
📍 Location: 500 N. Fannin (in front of the old Texas Plastics building)
🚫 No Thru Traffic
🛠️ Duration: Until further notice

Please use alternate routes and allow extra travel time while work is being completed.

The City of Elsa will be conducting a sandbag distribution for residents and businesses.

📍 Location: Public Works Shop (Old Plastics Building)
501 N. Fannin, Elsa, TX

🕔 Date/Time: Begins at 5:00 PM and will continue until supplies last.

⚠️ Important Information:

* Bring your own shovel.
* This is a fill-your-own sandbag distribution.
* Proof of residency or business location is required.
* A current utility bill showing an address within the City of Elsa city limits must be presented.
* Addresses will be verified.

Distribution Limits:

* 4 sandbags per resident
* 6 sandbags per business

Please help us ensure that supplies are available for as many Elsa residents and businesses as possible.

Due to the heavy rainfall occurring in our area, some streets may experience temporary ponding of water. Please be advised that the drainage system is functioning properly; however, the intensity of the downpour may cause water to accumulate in low-lying areas until it can fully drain.

We encourage all motorists to drive carefully, reduce speed, and use extra caution when traveling through areas with standing water.

Your safety is our priority. Thank you for your patience and cooperation, and please continue to monitor weather conditions as rain is expected to continue.
