Hello!

I figured it was about time to introduce myself and ask a favor or two of this group and its members as well as the general public.

My name is Camie Smith. I am the instructor of the VGC program. This is my 4th year teaching. I have been working in the design industry for over 10 years now and also have my degree in graphic design and marketing. I love it here and I love watching the students learn and grow. I love design and all aspects that come with it.

As a part of the professional side of this job comes the need for a professional advisory board. I am looking to expand my board and get some more valuable members. If you are someone who is involved with graphic design, marketing design, multimedia design, graphic arts and illustration, photography, teaching art, or any other creative work and would be willing and able to share your experience with me and my board please feel free to reach out. We meet twice a year, usually over zoom to discuss my current classroom and projects as well as making sure we are keeping up to date on industry standards, trends and development.

We are also interested in opening opportunities for our students. I am wanting to try to find businesses in the design world that could start offering internships to students to get them into the workforce and applying their skills and knowledge! If you own a business or know someone who does that would be interested in helping and hosting student interns, let’s chat!

I am also always looking for opportunities to build new projects, ideas and work in the classroom setting. If you or someone you know is interested in a rebranding of your logo, updated signage, an event invitation, or other similar projects. Please consider allowing my students to work on this! We have had logo clients in the past be incredibly satisfied and impressed with the work my students are capable of!

Lights, camera, smiles except it’s paper -> knives -> smile! Love the way the students see the world and each other! Paper portraits are always a hit ✂️🧑‍🎨🎨

Collaboration, communication and creativity start early! Building spaghetti towers to see who can create the tallest free standing tower. Students in VGC had a GREAT first week back! This is going to be a great year!

I would just like to say thank you for all the love and support from the community for my students! Thank you for all of the donations that helped them get to have this experience! They spent the week in Atlanta for nationals at SkillsUSA National Conference! I am proud of all the work you put into getting there. I’m so glad you guys had a great time. Way to represent VGC and Hinds Career Center!

SUPER PROUD TEACHER MOMENT!!!!

Today all 6 of my second year students competed in various events at the State Level Skills Conference with SkillsUSA. I am very proud of them for even competing! We have been working on various projects and ideas with SkillsUSA all year. I am also even more proud (and definitely a bit sad) of them for doing it without me. I have been out for a couple weeks on maternity leave. They were able to prepare themselves and go through with it on their own (as well as the help of our awesome sub and other staff at Hinds!) and show their skills!

I am so beyond proud and happy to share that Jayce and Gabe also won their competition and have qualified for nationals! Congratulations!!
