Northeast Minnesota will begin burning restrictions in Carlton, Cook, Lake, and St. Louis counties on Wednesday morning due to abnormally dry conditions creating extreme fire risk.
Donβt be fooled because things look green. This is a dangerous time for wildfires in the northeast. With little precipitation and more warm weather coming, fire danger is likely to remain high through the end of June.
Under these restrictions:
π₯ Burning permits will not be issued or activated.
π₯ No campfires in dispersed, backcountry, backpacking, and remote areas. Campfires are only allowed in established fire rings associated with a home, cabin, campground, or resort. Visit the individual state forest or park webpage to confirm burning restrictions.
π₯ No fireworks are allowed outside city limits.
You can make a difference β keep safety top of mind. Over 90% of wildfires are caused by humans in Minnesota. One unintentional spark in these conditions could result in thousands of charred acres and property damage.
DNR burning restrictions align with those being issued by the U.S. Forest Service for the Superior National Forest and Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, as well as the tribal nations of Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Bois Forte Band of Chippewa, and Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.
