This June, our America250 celebration honors the natural waters that have sustained and energized Lorain County for generations.

From the legendary waters of Lake Erie - the "Walleye Capital of the World" - to our thriving inland ponds and winding rivers, our county is a true paradise for anglers of all skill levels.

Whether you are casting a line off the historic Lorain Harbor Fishing Pier, heading out on a local charter boat for a day on the lake, or enjoying a family-friendly afternoon at a Lorain County Metro Parks pond, there is no better place to experience Ohio’s great outdoors.

Grab your tackle box and make some memories on Lorain County’s waters. 250-Ohio

Lorain County’s new Multi-Agency Radio Communications System (MARCS) is off to an impressive start, providing reliable, countywide communication for law enforcement, fire departments, EMS agencies, and other first responders. The $28 million project, funded through a partnership between the State of Ohio and Lorain County, was designed to improve interoperability and strengthen emergency response capabilities throughout the county.

Early testing and deployment have shown excellent coverage, dependable performance, and seamless communication between agencies. Even during recent storms impacting parts of the county, the system continued to operate effectively, helping ensure first responders remained connected when communication was most critical.

County officials say the successful launch represents a major investment in public safety and modern infrastructure that will benefit residents for years to come.

As our America250 celebration honors Ohio’s spectacular natural resources, we are highlighting a majestic treasure right in the vibrant heart of our county seat.

Hidden within downtown Elyria’s historic Cascade Park are the breathtaking Cascade Falls - two prominent 30-to-35-foot waterfalls known as the East Falls and the West Falls. Carved out of beautiful Berea sandstone by the branches of the Black River, these scenic, cascading falls have served as the historical focal point of the city since its founding.

Today, visitors can take in these stunning views from fully accessible observation platforms, beautiful hiking trails, and an iconic suspension bridge. 250-Ohio
