October’s America 250-Ohio theme, Food & Agriculture, also offers a chance to look at the familiar foods and restaurants that have become part of everyday life in Lorain County.

In 1960, McDonald’s opened its first Lorain County location on West Erie Avenue in Lorain, marking the beginning of a local history with one of America’s most recognizable restaurant brands. A second location followed in North Ridgeville in 1962, as the restaurant began becoming a familiar part of communities across the County.

From local farms and harvests to the restaurants and food traditions enjoyed by generations of residents, food has long been part of Lorain County’s story.

The Lorain County Solid Waste Management District’s Agricultural Tire Collection was a huge success!

More than 2,500 tires were collected during the event. Approximately one-third were large agricultural tires, one-third were semi-truck tires, and one-third were passenger vehicle tires. These tires will now be processed and diverted from the landfill.

Lorain County Commissioners Jeff Riddell and Marty Gallagher joined the team at the Collection Center, along with Thomas Patrick III, Director of the Lorain County Solid Waste Management District; Brandi Schnell, Special Projects Manager; Chris Hevener, Collection Center Coordinator; and Nicole Beko, Executive Assistant/Coordinator with the Lorain County Port Authority.

Thank you to everyone who helped organize the event, assisted throughout the day, and brought in tires for proper disposal.

2,500+ tires collected — thank you, Lorain County!
