Song of the Day.

Instrumentation = 9/10.
Metal mixing done right! 馃
Cannon snares, screaming lead guitar, soloing for no reason. Where did the vocals go? Favorite part of heavy metal is the emphasis on the music. This is the type of song where you wait for that One Part to blast through your sh*tty Nissan hatchback speakers and headbang hard as f**k driving 4mph.

Vocals = 4? 6?/10
Front man Dave Mustaine hardly spoke. He was probably too busy rocking the f**k out.
But when he does sing. He f**king sings it! WAKE UP DEAD!

Overall Listenability = 9.5/10

Song of the Day

Instrumental = 8/10
Alarming, repetitive, slaps adrenaline into your ears. Drums do their part, switching up patterns and keeping transitions interesting. Synth Bells alter from melodic to bouncy throughout the song so well.

Lyrics = 7/10
It's felt, not heard. Intimidating production tactics keep Vocals in front and yelling 50% of the time. Keep this song in mind if you need a song to rob a bank to.

Overall Listenability = 8.5/10
Don't rob a bank. Until you've heard this song.

Song of the Day.

Beat rating 9/10
-Heavy trap influence.

Lyrics 2/10
-As always. It's Yung Lean's niche to spit weak bars with quality vocal FX, and drowsy precision.

Overall Listenability 8/10
- Slap at any stop sign and mean mug the nearest nerd for that boss effect. Guaranteed to have parents walk into your room and say, " Damn son where'd you find this?"

"Denarius", in production with Parks and Recording:

I have been longing to create a new musical work- in need of, really- for quite some time now.

And as vital as my time spent at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music was for my development, as both a musician and a person, it was unsettling to have any substantial progress toward the completion of my subsequent album, 鈥淭ension & Release鈥, deferred and deprioritized (though justifiably so) for its entire two year duration.

Some may be aware of the unreleased material thus far making up 鈥淭ension & Release鈥: the six-movement suite making up the album鈥檚 first half, 鈥淭he Emperors鈥 Suite鈥. The second half, however, is what I am simply not ready for devoting my time and energy to, as I remain feeling unprepared, uninspired, and unequipped to compose on its subject: a mirroring six-movement suite titled 鈥淎nima Mundi: The Reinvention of Man鈥. Having now completed my studies, which I blamed for the work鈥檚 postponement, this realization that I should still hold off on its completion is a hard pill to swallow.

Because I am desperately in need of applying the past few years鈥 worth of my musical developments toward a new creation, a separate project has manifested; a project which I have given the name 鈥淒enarius鈥.

It is intended to confine and restrict myself, both mentally and physically, within the walls of a recording studio (Parks & Recording; Emeryville, CA), giving myself strict compositional parameters and deadlines within each day, and to culminate in the release of a new album. In short, I will be writing, recording, and releasing a new work each day for ten consecutive days and then hand packaging and distributing the journey to those interested.

This won鈥檛 be the first 鈥10 Songs in 10 Days鈥 I鈥檝e engaged in; I first participated in and completed the challenge in 2012 while living in San Diego. And although I decided against others鈥 requests of releasing the ten works as an album, much of the intuitive musical ideas spawning from those ten days turned into what would later become my first solo, classical guitar album, 鈥淗imself鈥.

But this attempt will be taken much further, with more intentions, higher ambitions, and the ultimate goal of creating a congruent, 10-work album. There will be 10 dedications, 10 collaborators, 10 items raffled off to supporters/donators; for inspiration and reference, brought with me will be 10 LPs, 10 textbooks, 10 non-guitar musical scores paired with the 10 scores of the past two years鈥 classical guitar repertoire; there will be compositional efforts involving 10-measure phrases, 10-chord progressions, 10/8 and 10/4 time-signatures, 10-note melodies, 10-note scales, etc. Each day will also have a random 10-minute LiveStream of whatever and wherever I happen to be with that day鈥檚 efforts. If it is received well enough, there will be 10 LPs printed (鈥ultiplied by 10鈥aking 100鈥) along with digital downloads. The LPs will come with a personal hand-assembled package and will include writings, prints, and a letter to the purchaser (if known), along with any other content from the course of the project I deem appropriate to toss in.

Since living anywhere within the Bay Area is expensive, and my paid work-hours will be suffering greatly during these ten days (as I will be locked in a recording studio instead of out working), there will be a link to a Venmo account, specifically for the project, available each day for donations and financial support. This is not a 鈥渃rowd-funding鈥 project or ambition. The option for donating is for those who support the endeavor, for those who want to help in its financial logistics: rent, production, distribution, incentive for collaborators, etc., and for those who want to participate in each day鈥檚 raffle (at the end of each day, the names of those who donated for that day will be put in a raffle for the hand-written score of that day鈥檚 created work). Think of it as a 鈥減ay as you wish鈥 option for following, tuning-in, listening, and supporting the ambition.

And as much as this is for selfish reasons, as I feel this project may yield personal, therapeutic benefits, and for my desire to produce and share a new album, I hope it is equally inspirational and motivating for others who wish to create something but are intimidated by the required amount of time and energy needed. I hope others enjoy the work churned out during these ten days. And I hope this project is a giant kick in the balls for myself- the composer, performer, and vulnerable sharer of his personal expressions.

Thank you for your time, interest and support :]

I hope this project can be something you yourself can also look forward to.

Whole-heartedly,

Craig Perry
