On 08/27/23 at approximately 4:30 p.m., EPD received a call from a business at the Bay St. Mall about a group of approximately 50 young adults inside the store causing a disturbance. Officers responded to the business and escorted the juveniles out.
At about 5:15 p.m. Officers observed another group of about 100 young adults arrived at the Bay St Mall. Over the next 30 minutes, an additional 100-150 more young adults showed up at the mall. At about 5:40 pm, the first of several fights were reported near the courtyard area of the mall. Officers attempted to maintain the peace while additional smaller fights broke out. Officers called for assistance from neighboring law enforcement agencies to assist in quelling the disturbance and stopping the fights.
At about 5:50 p.m., a report of a single gunshot fired was received, near Bay St and Ohlone Way. Officers responded and did not locate any victims or suspects or that incident. At about 7:00 p.m., a caller reported a person was stabbed near Elm Dr. Officers responded to that location and found a juvenile victim who had been stabbed. Emergency medical responders were called to the scene to render aid. The juvenile victim was treated and transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
EPD officers, with the assistance of allied agencies, patrolled the area until the crowds dispersed. By 8:30 p.m., most of the crowds had left the area.
At this time, there have been no reports of anyone else being injured or reports of businesses being looted.

🚔🚘High school students and Bay Area law enforcement officers have been headed to the race track and compete head-to-head on Sonoma Raceway’s quarter-mile drag strip, as the Top the Cops™ runs as part of the raceway’s popular weekly Wednesday Night Drags program for its 28th year!
🏁Top the Cops™ offers an alternative to illegal street racing and gives teens the chance to race against local law enforcement officers, who compete in full uniform in their official vehicles. The program also provides a unique environment for the officers to talk with teens about safe driving and the rules of the road. #emeryville # topthecop #sonomaraceway

The Emeryville Police Department wants you to have a safe and happy 4th of July! Unfortunately, the city of Emeryville does not have any city sanctioned events planned for this 4th of July. However, be aware as there may be road closures in effect at the Emeryville Marina.
Expect delays and road closures from 6:00 PM to 10:30 PM along Powell Street and Frontage Road.
In the event traffic congestion builds up, traffic control measures will be put in place for West bound Powell Street at the access road to the Watergate Towers (1900 Powell Street). Watergate Condominium and Marina residents' vehicles will be allowed through; however, occupants must show proof of residency to pass through.
The road closures will be in effect until traffic congestion is relieved.
We also want to remind everyone that all fireworks are illegal to possess or display in Emeryville. For everyone's safety, please refrain from lighting all illegal fireworks, consuming alcoholic beverages in public and driving intoxicated.
Happy 4th of July!!
