Travel Safety Workshops for Seniors
Do you rely on public transportation to get around? Do you know how to safely get around during the pandemic? The Center for Independent Living's Community Connections Program has partnered with the City of San Leandro’s FLEX RIDES program to offer two travel workshop to prepare you to travel safely amidst the pandemic and learn skills to plan your trips ahead of time. Please note that these workshops are not meant to promote traveling, but rather, to prepare those for their public transit trip if they must make an essential trip.

Travel Safety Workshop on Feb 10 (Wednesday), 1:00 - 2:00 PM:
This workshop will prepare you to travel safely amidst COVID-19. We will provide background information on COVID-19 as well as updated information on how different transit agencies have adapted to the shelter-in-place and pandemic orders. We will also provide tips to stay clean on transit and when you return home.
Trip Planning Workshop on Feb 24 (Wednesday), 1:00 - 2:00 PM:
Our Trip Planning Workshop will walk you through how to use Google Maps and the Transit App to plan trips, find resources near you, check real-time departures and more! With COVID-19 out and about, it is crucial to plan trips ahead of time so as to minimize exposure to the virus in public, and our presentation will have easy-to-follow steps on how to use both applications.

To sign up for the workshops, please RSVP through their portal here: thecil.org/coco-travel-workshops-package, and someone from TheCIL will follow-up with the next steps to access these online workshops. You can also sign up to become TheCIL's member for free to receive supporting materials for these workshops as well as a $5 value BART ticket. Emeryville Senior Center is looking for volunteers (under 65 YO) to help with our Meals on Wheels and Mercy Brown Bag food delivery programs.

If you have an hour to dedicate to volunteering, either once or twice a week, you could help make a difference in the lives of our Emeryville Seniors. Delivery days are M/W/F and every other Thursday. There are opportunities for weekly or bi-monthly deliveries.

Do you have a student that needs to complete community service hours? We can help you to complete those hours through Meal Deliveries! It’s a great way to connect with your community neighbors and is very rewarding for both parties!

We will train all volunteers! For additional information, please contact Mary McKenna at [email protected], or call the front desk of the Senior Center for more information: 510-596-3730.
