📣 Important Update on Siren Activation – June 21
Early Saturday morning, June 21, the Duluth Weather Service issued a warning for high winds over 70 mph affecting Crosslake, Fifty Lakes, and Emily. Crow Wing County 911 activated the civil defense sirens, but unfortunately, they did not engage despite multiple attempts. Our team worked closely with state agencies throughout the night to troubleshoot the issue.
As part of the investigation, sirens in Baxter were triggered at 6:23 AM, and a broader system test was recommended for 1 PM. While some notifications about this test were sent out, we recognize it may have caught some residents and visitors off guard.
With storm season in full swing—and extreme heat also in the mix—it’s essential that all emergency alert systems are functioning reliably. We know that trust is built through action, and as the saying goes, “the best apology is changed behavior.” Ensuring public safety isn’t just our responsibility—it’s our commitment.
We’re actively working with the Regional Operation Center to identify and correct the root cause. In the meantime, we strongly encourage residents to sign up for Crow Wing County ALERT to receive fast, direct updates via text, phone, or email.
Thank you for your patience as we take meaningful steps to strengthen our emergency response systems.
