Good morning from Riverside Farm!

And so it begins again! Tomorrow we welcome 1100 baby chickens to our farm to kick off our broiler season. This will be the first of 5 batches for the year and this batch marks the start of our busy season. We've enjoyed the slower pace of winter but its time to get back into it! These little chicks will spend 3 weeks in our warm and secure brooder house before we move them out to their pasture shelters. We're looking forward to a busy and productive year ahead!

As spring arrives we are planning to do broadcast seeding on a few of our pastures that sustained some damage from the winter. Our cattle winter pasture as well as our pig pasture got damaged with the high amounts of rain/snow we received and so we are using a custom pasture mix to seed the pastures. The mix includes perennial rye grass, fescue, orchard-grass, red clover and white clover. The rye grass will establish quickly and help hold the soil together, limiting erosion. The fescue, orchard grass and clovers will provide great forage for our cattle later on in the year when we bring them back to these pastures.

Final note, we look forward to welcoming you back to the LaGrange Farmers Market this year! Our first market will be Saturday, April 19th and we are excited to see everyone! We plan on cooking again and providing you with some breakfast and lunch options at the market. Hoping for some great weather to kick off the market season next month!

As a reminder, orders placed before midnight tonight will be delivered tomorrow. Orders over $100 qualify for free local home delivery. UPS orders will go out on either Mondays or Tuesdays of every week.
