The Emmetsburg High School Concert Choir is an auditioned mixed chorus of over seventy members selected primarily from the junior and senior classes at Emmetsburg High School. The Concert Choir is dedicated to the study and performance of advanced choral music literature, and have represented EHS at the IHSMA State Large Group Contest, where they have received Division I ratings for the past 26 ye
ars. The Concert Choir performs at four home concerts during the school year, and participates in a performance tour every two years. Past tours have seen the EHS Concert Choir earn superior ratings at regional festivals in Chicago, St. Louis, Colorado Springs, Orlando, and Washington DC and an Overall Performance Award in St. The Concert Choir, Mens Chorus, Womens Chorus and High Voltage Show Choir all received Adjudiucator Awards for earning combined average scores of over 95% from all three judges at the World Strides Heritage Music Festival in Colorado Springs in May of 2012 and the EHS choral program received the Overall Sweepstakes Award for the highest combined scores of all the schools attending the festival. "High Voltage" is the select varsity show choir of Emmetsburg High School. "High Voltage" is comprised of 44 singers and supported by an 11 member band. "High Voltage" has earned Division I Ratings at the IHSMA State Show Choir Contest in 31 of the past 32 years. They have been consistent place winners in their competitions for over thirty years, winning class championships at Dallas Center-Grimes "Take Two", West Liberty "Stars on Stage", Vermillion "Rhythm 'n Red", Sioux Falls Washington "Best of Show", over the past year, and qualifying for the finals at Dallas Center (2nd runner-up), West Liberty (3rd Runner-up), Vermillion (3rd runner-up) and Sioux Falls Washington (4th runner-up) . This year they will perform at West Branch, Dallas Center-Grimes, Sioux Falls Roosevelt, Pella, and Hinton, as well as host their own Emmetsburg “Extravaganza” Show Choir Invitational. The Emmetsburg High School Mixed Chorus is open to all 9th and 10th grade EHS students. Traditionally, the Mixed Chorus boasts an average enrollment of between 55 and 65 students. The Mixed Chorus performs at four home concerts every year and participates in the IHSMA State Large Group Contest, where they have earned Division I ratings 8 times. The choir is dedicated to rehearsing and performing intermediate level choral literature from a wide variety of stylistic eras, as well as work to develop solid vocal and choral technique. Black and Gold is the prep show choir at Emmetsburg High School and is made up of 9th and 10th grade vocal music students. All members of the EHS Show Choirs are members of the Mixed Chorus or the Concert Choir. Black and Gold performs at four home concerts during the year and attends the IHSMA State Show Choir Contest where they have earned nine Division I ratings over the years. Black and Gold also attends three show choir competitions and have earned Prep Class championships at Hinton, Albert Lea, Vermillion, and Emmetsburg and have placed in the top three of Class 2A at Urbandale, Albert Lea and Sioux City East, and Sioux Falls Washington. The Emmetsburg High School Treble Clef Chorus is made up of the girls from the Concert Choir. They have earned Division I ratings at IHSMA State Large Group Contest for the last 24 years. The Treble Clef Chorus has also earned Superior Ratings on their regional performance tours to Chicago, St. Louis, Colorado Springs, Washington DC and Orlando. In 2000, they were named the Outstanding Overall Performance at the Music in the Parks Festival in Orlando. In 2010, they were named the Outstanding Overall Performance at the Dynamic Music Festivals in Orlando, where they received the highest overall score and a National Championship recognition as the highest overall score of all Treble Clef Choirs who attended all Dynamic Festivals during the 2010 Festival season. In 2012, the Treble Clef Chorus received an Adjudicators Award at the World Strides Heritage Festival in Colorado Sprigs, receiving the highest overall score of the day for their performance. The Emmetsburg High School Bass Clef Chorus is made up of the boys from the Concert Choir. The Bass Clef Chorus has earned Division I ratings at the IHSMA State Large Group Contest for the past 25 years. They have also earned Superior Ratings at regional festivals in Chicago, St. Louis, Orlando, Colorado Springs, and Washington DC during the music department performance tours which occur every other year. The Bass Clef Chorus earned the Overall Performance Award at the Chicago Gateway Festival in 2002 and were awarded Adjudicators Award at the World Strides Heritage Music Festival in Colorado Springs in May, 2012.
