Tonight your Emmett Fire Department hosted training at a home that is scheduled to be demolished. We invited our mutual aid partners, Memphis Volunteer Fire Department and Mussey Township Fire Department to train with us, and were able to have 4 great training stations, led by members from each department. We worked on honing our skills in ladder placement and emergency ladder bailouts, vertical ventilation, search and rescue, and mayday situations.

Group training like this, with other departments, helps us work better together on actual emergency scenes, and also forces us to get out of our "comfort zone" of the folks from our own departments and work with others who we may not know as well and who have different skill sets.

Thank you to everyone who came tonight and made this training successful, and thank you to the homeowner who allowed us to use this home.

Please congratulate our two most recent fire academy graduates. Dave and Robbie spent the last few months learning in the classroom and honing their hands on skills on the training ground, and completed the requirements to become state certified firefighters.

In addition to his firefighter qualifications, Dave also completed his Emergency Medical Responder classes just weeks before starting the academy, and is now a fully certified member of our department.

Great work you two!

Tonight your Emmett firefighters trained with the "still new as far as we're concerned" battery powered Hurst extrication tools that we purchased last year. Along with the extrication tools, we received 2 new rescue struts for stabilizing vehicles, which were also utilized during training to stabilize a vehicle rolled on its side. We used both our newest struts, and the struts we've had for years, specifically to show the different uses and pros and cons of each style of strut.

Firefighters practiced removing a live "patient" from one of the vehicles, to practice not only using the tools we carry, but also to practice working with and tending to a live person versus a training prop.

Trainings like these would not be possible without the cooperation of companies like Joe Ballor Towing, and operator Austin Duckworth, who not only donated the cars to cut up, but also delivered and arranged the vehicles how we specifically asked to better enhance our training.

The Emmett Fire Department would like to thank our mutual aid partners who came out to assist us with a structure fire Friday evening. We'd like to especially thank Eric Varty with Varty's Excavating for hauling heavy equipment to the scene to assist in accessing the fire on a building that was structurally compromised that we could not enter. Thank you to the following agencies:
Memphis Volunteer Fire Department
Kenockee Fire Department
Kimball Fire Department
Mussey Township Fire Department
Richmond/Lenox EMS
St Clair County Sherrifs Department
DTE Energy

Today a few of our members had their lunch paid for by some anonymous folks at Grump's diner. Our firefighters were very appreciative of the gesture, and we, as a department, would like to say thank you as well. None of us do this looking for any recognition, but it's a great reminder to us of what a supportive community we serve. Thank you again, anonymous lunch donors.
