U.S. Fire Administration The official page for the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA). America's fire losses today represent a dramatic improvement from more than 40 years ago.

USFA supports and strengthens fire and EMS to prepare for, prevent, mitigate and respond to all hazards. In 1971, our nation lost more than 12,000 citizens and 250 firefighters to fire. Acting to halt these tragic losses, Congress passed P.L. 93-498, the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act, in 1974 and established the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) and its National Fire Academy. Since that ti

me, through data collection, public education, research, and training efforts, USFA has helped reduce fire deaths by more than 75 percent - making our communities and our citizens safer. USFA joined the Federal Emergency Management Agency in 1979. Our offices and the National Fire Academy campus are located at the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

The National Fire Academy has vacancies for its F0633 Youth Firesetting Intervention Specialist course in Traverse City, MI on October 10-11, 2026.

The Youth Firesetting Intervention Specialist course is based on the requirements of NFPA 1035, Standard on Fire and Life Safety Educator, Public, Public Information Officer, Youth Firesetting Intervention Specialist and Youth Firesetting Program Manager Professional Qualifications.

The course focuses on how identification, intake, screening, disposition and follow-up are used to mitigate youth firesetting behavior. It includes course work to help you understand the motivations behind youth firesetting and how the impact of adverse childhood experiences and behavioral/mental health changes can influence firesetting behaviors.

It is for the practitioner who provides services at the program delivery level.

Fifty years ago, America Burning called for a national system to understand the fire problem before solving it. The legacy system tracked fire deaths down by roughly half over the next five decades.

Keep charging areas clean and clutter free to reduce fire risks and help keep spaces safe. Unplug devices when charging is complete, keep cords organized, and remove paper or other flammable items from charging stations.
