Town of Emmitsburg Nestled in the Northern area of Frederick County at the base of the Catoctin Mountain range, the Town is home to approx. 3,100 residents.

Emmitsburg was founded in 1785 Following the Civil War, the Emmitsburg area continued to grow and prosper as the home of many manufactures and mills. Along with it's historical roots that date back to the Civil War, the Town also features Mount Saint Mary's University, the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial, as well as the National Shrine of the Lady of the Lourdes. ons is Rainbow Lake where fishing is abundant. Emmitsburg boasts two parks with walking and fitness trails, tennis court, basketball court, and baseball fields. The Community pool is a summertime favorite for all ages. A small town community with unique shopping and dining experiences. The Town has a long standing connection to the fire company which is all volunteer and has been in operation since 1844.

Notice is hereby given that the Emmitsburg Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026 at the Town Office located at 300A South Seton Ave. Emmitsburg, MD 21727. The purpose of the hearing is to take public comment on proposed charter amendments which would: 1) clarify the role of the Board of Commissioners in judging the qualifications of its members; 2) amend provisions relating to vacancies on the Board of Commissioners and the office of Mayor; 3) clarify the specific enumerated powers of the Board of Commissioners; 4) increase the maximum fine and maximum period of incarceration the Board of Commissioners may set for violation of any ordinance; 5) add the office of Vice President of the Board of Commissioners; 6) amend provisions relating to the appointment and discharge of Town officers and employees; and 7) grant the Board of Commissioner’s discretion to designate violations of any ordinance to be continuing in nature. Notice is hereby given that the Emmitsburg Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., and the Mayor and Board of Commissioners of the Town of Emmitsburg will hold a separate public hearing on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.
The purpose of these public hearings is to receive public testimony and comments regarding proposed Ordinance 2026-11, an ordinance to amend Chapter 16.48 of the Emmitsburg Municipal Code, Forest Conservation.
The proposed amendment is intended to update the Town’s Forest Conservation regulations so that they are consistent with the most recent updates to the State of Maryland Forest Conservation Act. If adopted, Ordinance 2026-11 would revise the Town’s existing Forest Conservation requirements to ensure local compliance with State law and to reflect the updated standards applicable to forest conservation, afforestation, reforestation, mitigation, and related development review requirements.

Notice is hereby given that the Emmitsburg Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. The purpose of the hearing is to receive public comment on a proposed amendment to Chapter 17 of the Emmitsburg Municipal Code regarding Accessory Dwelling Units, commonly referred to as ADUs. The proposed amendment would establish local regulations for ADUs within the Town of Emmitsburg, including where they may be permitted, applicable zoning and development standards, and the review process for approval. The amendment is also intended to bring the Town Code into compliance with recent Maryland State law requirements related to ADUs

Notice of Upcoming Construction Along Timbermill Run
The Town of Emmitsburg would like to notify residents that construction work is expected to take place along Timbermill Run in connection with the Brookfield Lots C, D, and E development project starting during the week of June 22, 2026. The purpose of the work is to install infrastructure needed to serve ten new homes in the Brookfield development area. Construction activities will include utility work, excavation, roadway work, equipment staging, and other related site improvements. Residents may experience construction noise and limited disruptions in the area while work is underway. The developer and contractor are expected to coordinate work in a manner that minimizes inconvenience to nearby residents as much as possible.
The Town appreciates your patience and cooperation while this work is completed.
