Our hearts go out to the family, friends and Law Enforcement family for the tragic loss to Larimer County Sheriff's Office.

Larimer County, we’re heartbroken to share information about a sudden and tragic loss within our agency.

On June 16, an LCSO Deputy, Sergeant, and Sergeant’s family member were vacationing together on a motorcycle trip. The men were traveling on a North Idaho scenic highway when a pickup truck attempted to pass another vehicle in a marked no-passing zone. The truck crossed the double yellow centerline and collided with the motorcycles, killing all three riders.

The truck driver was arrested and booked into the Idaho County Jail on three counts of vehicular manslaughter. Idaho State Police are investigating this crash.

Out of respect for their families’ strong desire for privacy, we aren’t identifying the deputies at this time.

There are no good words in a situation like this. Put simply, these were incredible people who dedicated their lives to making Larimer County better every single day. They trained hard, they served well, and they loved life. As we walk the long and winding path of grief alongside their families, our resolve is stronger than ever:

For them, we’ll bring light into dark places.
For them, we’ll stand for good and fight against evil.
For them, we’ll live each day with gratitude and carry their legacy forward.

Just a reminder on the Town of Empire’s Clean-up Day on 06/13/26 starting at 8:00am.

This is a great opportunity to get rid of larger items that you can’t typically throw away. Please make sure you bring a form of identification or proof of residency.

Please remember we will not accept
household trash, TVs, tires, oil, paint, computers, electronics,
refrigerators/freezers, and other hazardous waste. We will cease
once the dumpsters are full, and the dumpsters will be removed.

Lookout Alert System Test Scheduled

On Wednesday, June 3, beginning in the morning, Clear Creek County, Jefferson County, Broomfield, and Westminster will conduct a regional test of the Lookout Alert emergency notification system.

What to Expect:
• You may receive a TEST alert by Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA), text message, email, or voice call.
• Your phone may make a loud sound or vibrate when the alert is received.
• The message will state:
“TEST Lookout Alert for Clear Creek, Jeffco, Broomfield and Westminster. No action needed.”

This is only a test. Please do not call 9-1-1 unless you are experiencing an actual emergency.

Why It Matters:
Regular testing helps public safety agencies stay prepared for emergencies such as wildfires, flooding, and severe weather.

Clear Creek County Conducting Emergency Evacuation Exercise
Heavy Traffic Expected on Hwy 103 on May 2

On Saturday, May 2, 2026, several neighborhoods along Highway 103 in Clear Creek County are participating in an evacuation exercise. Many residents in the Beaver Brook, Echo Hills, Evergreen West, and Raven Ridge neighborhoods have registered to participate. These residents will receive instructions to evacuate their homes on the morning of May 2, 2026.

Residents and visitors should expect heavy traffic on Hwy 103 between 10am – 12:30pm. The evacuation route for all participating neighborhoods is Hwy 103 East to Evergreen Pkwy/Hwy 74 south to the evacuation center at the former Bergen Meadow Elementary School. Public safety personnel will be monitoring evacuation checkpoints along Hwy 103 during the exercise. Variable message boards (VMS boards) are currently positioned on Hwy 103 to warn motorists to expect heavy traffic on May 2.

The exercise will help residents become more familiar with evacuation routes and better understand what to expect during an evacuation. It will also help participating agencies improve evacuation processes and establish a benchmark of evacuation times for more populated neighborhoods. Agencies participating in the exercise include Clear Creek Sheriff’s Office, Evergreen Fire Rescue, Clear Creek Fire Authority, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jeffcom911, and Clear Creek County.
