Last Friday May 8th the 3rd grade students from Woodland Elementary School released their raised fingerling trout into the Cowley Run stream.

The Trout in the Classroom program is made possible by a partnership between the PA Fish and Boat Commission and the PA Council of Trout Unlimited. Students spent the school year learning about cold water education with the Cameron County Conservation District while raising their trout from egg to fingerling.

After releasing their fingerlings, the students spent the day learning about: The Different Hardwoods in PA, Macros, Animals found in Sizerville, Beaver, and Animal Survival all on a rotation schedule. Presenting on the day were: Nancy McCloskey from Allegheny Hardwoods Utilization Group, Taylor Gillette from Cameron County Outdoor Activities, Alyson Rotello from Sizerville State Park, Natalie Aiello from PSU Extension, and Jon Marc Burdick from the Cameron County Conservation District. The students also had a question and answer session with PA Game Commission's Officer Caleb Reider, a former student at Cameron County School District who also experienced the Trout in the Classroom program.

Last week the Envirothon Students from Cameron County High School traveled to McKean County Fair Grounds to attend their last study day before test day on April 30th. Students spent the day preparing alongside McKean County Schools in the subjects of Aquatics, Soils, Wildlife, Forestry, and the Current Event. Over 100 students were in attendance on the day.

Thank you goes out to PA Game Commission, DCNR, NRCS, and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford for helping the students prepare for test day on April 30th.

Special THANK YOU goes out to the for their generous donation of 210 donuts for the kids to enjoy. As you can see, the donuts hit the spot!

The TIC program is going great at Cameron County School District. The pictures/video below are from Mr. Jones 3rd grade class. The little guys are starting to lose their yolk sacs, and some are even starting to swim. They are now released into the open tank and are doing amazing. Keep following along to see weekly updates on the trout. Release day is scheduled for May 8th.
