Town of Encampment Encampment, Wyoming formerly known as Grand Encampment, Wyoming. The Town of Encampment sits at the base of the Sierra Madre Mountains in Carbon County, WY. S.

Highway 70 turns through the town on it way south to the continental divide and beyond. Grand Encampment, as it was originally named, historically held Indian & Mountain Men Rendezvous in the beginning. Encampment is a quiet rural community near the Encampment River and only a mile from the town of Riverside. As of the 2010 U. Census the population is 450 people. The major employers are the Encampment K-12 School, Thompson Logging & The Town of Encampment.
