It’s more than fighting fires together. More than sharing 24-hour shifts. More than answering the call.

It’s about showing up when there are no tones, no emergency, and no call for help — just one of our own who needs us.

Today, members of the Endicott Fire Department stood together to pay their respects to our Department and Village Of Endicott Administrative Assistants, Janice and Lynn Orlando, and their family following the passing of their loved one, James.

Brotherhood doesn’t end when the shift is over. When one of our own hurts, we stand together.

Our deepest condolences are with Lynn and her family.

10/26/26 @ 15:16 - Platoon 4 - Quint 25 and Squad 25, with a total of 6 personnel, were dispatched along with Endicott Police Department and Union Volunteer Emergency Squad, Inc. for a reported truck fire with entrapment at North Street and Loder Avenue.

While responding, Endicott Police reported a working fire, with smoke visible to responding fire apparatus. As fire units arrived just 4 minutes after dispatch, Endicott Police reported there was no entrapment, which was quickly confirmed by fire units. Upon arrival, the truck was found to have a working fire in the engine compartment with minimal to no extension into the passenger compartment. A hose line was stretched, and the fire was quickly extinguished.

Thankfully, no one was trapped, and no injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The rapid response of the on-duty shift, consisting of 6 firefighters, allowed crews to arrive on scene and contain the fire before it could spread into the passenger compartment. Had anyone been trapped inside, the prompt response would have provided firefighters with the opportunity to carry out a rescue before the fire reached them.

The Village of Endicott advises residents and motorists that Broome Bituminous will begin roadway milling on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7 a.m. on the following streets:

1. Robble Avenue – E. Franklin Street to Watson Boulevard
2. Watson Boulevard – Robble Avenue to Cornell Avenue
3. Witherill Street – Just east of Odell Avenue to Rogers Avenue
4. Squires Avenue – Watson Boulevard to Witherill Street

Milling is expected to take several days, with paving scheduled for the following week.

During construction, these roadways will be closed to unnecessary traffic. Flaggers will assist school buses, emergency vehicles, and residents who live within the affected areas.

IMPORTANT PARKING NOTICE: All vehicles parked along these streets must be removed by 6 a.m. each day during construction. Vehicles not removed may be towed at the owner's expense.

The remaining section of Witherill Street, from Odell Avenue to Oak Hill Avenue, is scheduled for a larger paving project next year.

PUBLIC SAFETY REMINDER | SMOKE & CO DETECTORS

The Endicott Fire Department has recently responded to several calls involving smoke and carbon monoxide detectors chirping due to low batteries, expired units, or malfunctions.

A chirping detector doesn’t always mean there’s an emergency, but it does mean something needs attention.

Common causes include:

- Low or dead batteries
- Detectors past their expiration date
- Dust, moisture, or debris
- Electrical or system malfunctions

Take a few minutes to check your detectors, replace batteries as needed, and verify their expiration dates.

If your detector sounds an alarm or you’re unsure of the cause, evacuate and call 911.

A working detector can save your life.

Last night, the Endicott Paid Fire Fighters Benevolent Association held a retirement dinner to recognize and honor several of our recent retirees.

Together, these members represent 142 years of service to the Village of Endicott and its residents.
