Today was a proud day for our U-E community as the Broome County Legislature officially proclaimed March 4, 2026 as Teagan McGuinness Day.

During a special ceremony, Broome County Executive Jason Garnar and Legislator Greg Baldwin presented Teagan with a commemorative banner as her friends, family, coaches, and staff proudly looked on. The room was filled with applause, smiles, and a deep sense of admiration.

It was a fitting tribute to an extraordinary season; one that ended with Teagan earning the title of New York State Champion. Today, we didn’t just celebrate a student-athlete. We celebrated dedication, resilience, and a young woman who made her entire community proud.

The UEHS Diversity Café kicked off its first Bagels & Belonging, and it truly showcased what this space is all about.
Thanks to the generosity of Best Bagels in Town, who will be donating bagels every Monday, our students can now look forward to Bagels & Belonging each Tuesday. That simple act of kindness is doing more than filling stomachs. It helps students feel welcome and cared for in a space created for, and by, students.
During approved study halls and lunch periods, students can come in, sit with friends, take a breath, and reset. They can grab a bite, catch up on homework, read, talk, or simply exist without pressure for a little while. That kind of space matters. Not every student has somewhere they feel they fully belong during lunch or free parts of the day.
Today’s bagels brought smiles and plenty of conversation, but more importantly, they strengthened a growing sense of community. Bagels & Belonging is about more than food. It’s about making sure every student knows there is a place for them. Photo credit: Melissa Sorensen

Over the past several weeks at JFS Middle School, students have been taking part in a special project called Healing Hearts.
During lunch enrichment and approved free periods, a table in the library has become a space for connection and care. A sewing station is set up where students have been creating small, hand-held hearts out of soft fabric and bright thread. They have been creating, stitching, and sewing, working side by side with a shared purpose.
The completed hearts were recently given to guidance counselors to share with students or staff who are grieving the loss of a loved one. It’s a simple gesture, but a meaningful one. Each handmade heart is a quiet reminder that no one has to face difficult moments alone.
We are proud of our students for showing that kindness, compassion, and community are alive and well at JFS.

Congratulations to Union-Endicott High School senior Reese Dimon, who has been recognized as a 2026 National Merit Finalist.

In total, nearly $26 million in scholarships will be awarded. About half of the Finalists will earn a National Merit Scholarship, which may include a $2,500 National Merit Scholarship, a corporate-sponsored award, or a scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Winners will be selected in the coming months.

The U-E Unified Bowling season wrapped up with a wonderful final tournament, celebrating not just the sport, but the spirit behind it.

Our Unified program gives students the opportunity to participate in athletics in a way that brings everyone together. Through bowling, students of all abilities compete side by side, support one another, and build real friendships along the way. It’s about more than scores. It’s about teamwork, inclusion, and belonging.

U-E has proudly participated in Unified sports for several years, including basketball and soccer, and each season continues to show what makes this program so special. The final bowling tournament was a great way to cap off the season, with students receiving medals and certificates of achievement to recognize their hard work and dedication.

Thank you to the coaches, staff, and students who make Unified Bowling possible. Your commitment ensures that athletic opportunities are open to all and that every student has a chance to shine.

We are proud of our Tigers and the example they set for our entire community. Check out the news story from WBNG.

The Ideal Bowling Center in Endicott hosted three local high school teams Monday for the final match of the Unified Bowling culmination event.
