Libraries have so much more than books.

But did you know that some libraries have social workers?

Libraries have always been community hubs - connecting people with information, education, technology, and more.

Now, libraries are expanding their role by partnering with social workers who can help visitors find and navigate community resources, benefits, housing, mental health services, and more.

And it's happening right here at the Vestal Public Library!

We have a Social Work Intern!
Meet with Jonathan, a student in Binghamton University's Master of Social Work program and VPL's Social Work intern for the fall semester. Anyone can schedule an appointment with Jonathan to ask questions and get help with housing resources, food access, legal aid, and job applications.
Appointments available at the library:
Mondays between 11:30 AM and 8 PM
Tuesdays between 9 AM and 4:30 PM

We're pleased to announced two new support groups for older adults happening this fall!

The Rules of Estrangement offers a supportive space for parents experiencing estrangement from an adult child to connect, explore their experiences, and find support with others who understand.

Too Deep for Words is an expressive arts grief support group offering participants a creative way to explore grief and loss. No art experience is needed.

Each group is intentionally small to facilitate safety, trust, and meaningful connections. We kindly ask that you register with the intent to attend all scheduled group sessions.

Both groups are offered at no cost to participants through a generous grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation.
