SAFETY REMINDER: Big Boy No. 4014 Passing Through Endwell
We are excited to see the Union Pacific "Big Boy"—the world’s largest operating steam locomotive—traveling through our area! We anticipate it lunchtime on Friday 6/12/26. As it makes its way toward its next stop, we want to ensure everyone enjoys this historic event safely.
The "Big Boy" is a 1.2-million-pound, 7,000-horsepower marvel, but its size and power mean it requires extra caution from all of us. Please keep these railroad safety rules in mind:
Keep Your Distance: Never walk on, walk near, or stand near railroad tracks. Maintain a minimum distance of 25 feet at all times.
Respect the Power: Trains cannot stop quickly. Always stay behind crossing gates and warning lights—they are there to protect you. Never drive or walk around lowered gates.
Stay Alert: Expect a train on any track at any time. Schedules can change, and trains can approach from either direction.
Watch Your Surroundings: If you are in the vicinity, be mindful of hazards like debris, steam, or high winds. Avoid wearing anything that obstructs your vision or hearing.
Park Responsibly: Do not park vehicles on or near the tracks.
Respect Private Property: Please do not trespass on private land to access the tracks or view the train.
If you are heading out to watch the locomotive pass through Endwell, please be careful and stay alert. If you capture any great photos, feel free to share them in the comments—we would love to see them!
